The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

So that’s the cost for the hook-up to the town sewer with the plumber doing all that pipe work from the street to your house? That’s a pretty good price, 2J! Y’all got a good plumber!

I thought I'd show you some pictures of how wild the surf was on the beach yesterday...

They stuned the thread.

I got the seats back in the van during a very lovely little lull in our rain. Dang those seats are a pain in the rear. It’s been very nice that they come out, but they’re not a lot of fun to move.

It was pretty calm while I was there. But that’s also right at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay and there’s not as much surf as you get further down. In the second picture the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is right along the horizon.

Got this via email:

As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. Coli) - bacteria found in feces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, Whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember: Water = Poop, .........Wine = Health

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of $#!t.

That’s not the one I have to go through to get to Virginia Beach. It’s a pain when you get stuck because of an accident in the Hampton Roads tunnel. There are ~two~ tunnels going over to the Eastern Shore. 17 miles of bridge and tunnel altogether.

I’m just going to ignore the accident in a tunnel part. Don’t even wanna think about it.

Well, you won't have to deal with them MUCH longer. ;o)

If I can make up my mind and all...

I’m still worried about long-term value and reliability with the Hyundai. It definitely comes with more than anything else in that price range...but it also depreciates rather alarmingly.

I’m also looking a bit at Honda Fits (which would have to be ordered as they’re not in stock anywhere) and Toyota Yaris sedans, which are about the same size as my old Corolla, actually, now that the new Corollas have grown a bit and turned into less of an economy car. But the Yaris has a weird center-mounted control panel to save world-wide manufacturing costs...so they could put the steering wheel on whichever side makes sense. It looks really odd and seems like it’d be an ergonomic nightmare.

Maybe tomorrow's Gun Pron should be a discussion of this:

There's stuff there I can't begin to identify. Maybe it should be a contest, with the winner getting one of the remaining Hobbit Hole knives.

Let me start by giving a hint: I think there's a M-16/AR15 underneath there somewhere. Sorta like a pony underneath all the horsesh!t.

I thought Hyundais were considered pretty good cars. I haven't looked closely at them though, so I have no idea about their resale value. Can you get hold of a Consumer Reports Used Car Buying Guide? I think you could get it at the library. That might give you an idea about their reliability and how their value holds up. Or you could just look some older models up on Edmunds or the Kelly Blue Book site.

That Honda Fit is a cute little car!

Oh, trust me...I've read pretty much everything I could get my hands on. Hyundai's newer models are supposedly of much better quality than they ever were before - on a par with the big makers - but the resale value isn't much better than, say, Kia. It worries me, 'cause I could pretty easily end up with a car worth less than the remaining loan.

That Honda Fit is a cute little car!

Isn't it just? It's adorable...and has a lot more inside space than you'd think for the size. I've only gotten to see it in pictures and parking lots 'cause there just aren't many around, but dang, they're cute. Pretty basic for the one I could afford...but then, my Corolla was basic. It didn't have cruise control or power anything or a CD player or anything like that. I love the bright blue Fit...
