The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I’m developing a bad attitude as we speak. Stupid test.

Heh heh...one lady just came up and dumped the change in her purse into our bucket!

It was a lot of fun. I'm not a big fan of fundraising, but I gotta say...this was downright fun. We just sat off to the side and let people approach us...didn't bother anyone. Those that approached us were interested and so kind and usually chatty and social...

I got to visit with a whole lot of friendly Oklahomans and enjoyed it thoroughly!

It looks downright WARM there, what with the short sleeves and all. We won’t see that kind of weather until the middle of May, if that soon!

There used to be a guy on the guitar list named Toby Branfoot.

Seems like a rather hobbity name to me. ;-)

Least you get to do it from home, huh?

Still drizzly here. And cold, at least compared to a few weeks ago - upper thirties.

I think my crocuses have croaked. :-\ The daffodils look OK, but we had a frost just after the crocuses opened and they’re all soggy. Verry sad looking.

Just got my bloodwork info back from my physical on Monday. All of it looks GREAT! My cholesterol is actually down by 27 points since the last time I had the full panel done in 2005, because I was at 210 then, and I'm down to 183 now! The HDL and LDL levels are good, with the LDL being below the level mentioned in the reference range, and the ratio of the two being below the reference range, as well. I'm thrilled about that, because my Doc had made noises about putting me on cholesterol meds, when I first saw him after getting out of the hospital, because he assumed that, when he tested it, my cholesterol would be high because I'm overweight.

Just goes to show you, you can't always assume!

Excellent labs, Suzi!

Well, we’re hookin’ on to the city. We weighed our options and it’s either replace the laterals in our 40 year old septic field or hook on to the city. Both cost about the same, so we’re opting with the city so we never have to worry with it again. I also feel like it will make the house more sellable in the future.

Our neighbors were a bit anxious about it...the city sewer line is on their side of the fence. But after talking to several plumbers, I finally got one that I liked and the price was right...I took that plumber over to my neighbors and he re-assured them.

Oh, it will make a HUGH difference, 2J, if not in the price you can get, but certainly in making the house sell more quickly! Folks don't like buying trouble or uncertainty, and not having to deal with a septic tank will remove a large source of concern in a buyer's mind.

Oh, and I just talked to my Cardio Doc, and he’s going to take me off the lisinopril and put me on Avapro. He said it won’t cause the coughing like the other did. Whew! I’m so glad! I didn’t even take the lisinopril today. SirKit’s going to go by WalMart and pick up the new stuff this afternoon. I don’t think it’s on the $4 program, but I don’t care; it will be worth it’s weight in gold as far as I’m concerned!

Gonna cost around $3000.00

~cough...gasp~

But at least we have it. We have it in savings. And one of the reasons we liked the guy we’re going with is because he suggested all kinds of things we could do ourselves to cut the cost...like arranging to have the tank sucked out and filled with sand ourselves.

It’ll mean less worry over the long run, I’d think!

Duh...I just figured out why I’ve been so hungry all morning. My boss went to heat up his lunch and my breakfast was still in the microwave. Oops.

Well, it would have to be cleaned... and ventilation might be an issue.

Heh... and if it was new... I’d only be half-kidding, after seeing how big the septic tank here is! It’s huge! It really could hold a few people fairly comfortably!

I’ve seen a few septic tanks, and most are in the neighborhood of the size of your average hot tub, in diameter. But when they were pumping the tank here... my thought was that it was HUGE! It’s like a 12x12 room down there.
