I even found a link to an ebay auction of the airsoft version, went for big bucks.

The original movie props for Star Wars are either locked away, or sold long ago, especially the "hero weapons". That "Boba Fett blaster" is a repro using a genuine Webley flare gun as a base (just as in the movie), and then adding stuff to it, based on a frame-by-frame analysis of how it was modified. Then they made a resin model, and the models sell for $650!!!!

$650 still buys me some respectable shootin' hardware, and not just a lump of plastic.

At an MVACA show some years back I handled a 37mm steel case, machined to allow the use of the 25 mm flares. It even had it’s exactor, which allowed the smaller shell to lifted back for extraction. It would be quite the accessory for your flare gun.

Oh, it's simple to make a durable sub-caliber adapter for those big-bore flare guns. It's just that BATFE takes a dim view of those things. Especially if it's chambered for a standard-length 12ga shell. 12ga flare guns must be chambered for short flares only, although I don't know how the feds would take to someone having those shorty Mexican 12ga shotshells in their possession.

I also remember a story my uncle told me, who was a platoon sergeant for a quad-50 antiaircraft battery in WW2. Someone came up with a flare gun, and found a division-level machine shop where someone else made him a 12ga sleeve for it.

The first shot worked just fine, except the recoil broke his wrist. There was no second shot.

Funny, but also not funny, since we're competing with the chicoms for lead. I just want my lead in my ammo, not my paint or products.

My guess is we'd be really screwed in the Clintons' "green" tungsten ammo decree had ever taken effect.

Heh, $650 does buy respectable shooting irons, even today. But the ebay auction I was refering to was for a ‘Decker Blaster’ and it went for nearly $1500. Parts for a working model according to the blogs would be near that.

Sub caliber sleeve’s popularity seem to ebb and flow. The one I recall best was the Savage 410er. I knew a couple of folks years back that had them for their kids. Slide in the .410 adapter into the 12 guage single shot (or double I suppose) and it was kid size recoil wise. Cabella’s still has a version of it, and some high dollar skeet sets offer a whole line of barrel sleeves.

No excuses not to paint, now! I’ll be waiting until spring to start painting the rooms here. I’d done the three bedrooms upstairs last fall, so I’ll do ours, then move downstairs. I have a Wagner power roller that works like a charm. The longest job is still the cutting in, but SirKit found a painter’s tape dispenser, that will accommodate both the 1” and 2” rolls, so taping everything off is Joseph’s job. ;o) I prefer to ‘cut-in’ using a small roller. It gives the same finish as the power roller, so I don’t get the lines at the bottom and top that always look like brush marks.

No excuse....except it’s only enough to finish half the room and I had other plans for today.

I just still have a lot of times where it seems like even though I’ve come a long distance and done a lot of stuff...not much has changed.

I’m still sitting here early on a Sunday afternoon with laundry going, Tam demanding emphatically that fetch should be played, and nothing more exciting than work in my near future. ;-)

Ah well. I s’pose even the hobbitses felt that way once in awhile after their great adventures. Life went on again, mostly as it had before. Heh.

I moved my yarn onto shelves instead of in drawers like they were. I suppose there's the risk they'll get dusty, but that room doesn't really get dust like out here, and most of the time I wash stuff as soon as I'm done anyhow. And this way I can figure out instantly if I have enough yarn for a particular project. Plus it's nicely colorful. I have another couple of shelves I could clear to use for more yarn if need be (that messy space below, for instance...)

The orange and the yellows, I have a project in mind for. Most of the other colors (purple, white, the darker red), I have works-in-progress for.

Hm...looking at it that way, I really need more, don't I?

In other news...I am weak.

The guy who had it does building salvage and sometimes finds odds and ends left behind that the building owner doesn't want to deal with. Makes me wonder what this thing's story is! It was dusty and musty and the ribbon was long dried out, but didn't have so much as a sticking key. I couldn't resist. But now I officially need to sell off a few. I'm beyond the point where I can use excuses like, "This one has bigger type than this one...so it's nice to have both..."

So...who's still up for a NoFiMo / NoEdMo in February? I'm planning on it. I figure I'll aim for 1000 words a day, or 3-4 typewritten pages. I should really finish all my transcription before February starts...

I like having those colors out and viewable!

It needs green and blue, though, I think...and maybe some pastels...

Yup - definitely room for more yarn!

Can I compliment you on what a lovely photo of your typewriter that is? The light, the contrast, the composition - all very, very nice!

It needs a cat snuggled up in the middle, testing it for snoozability.
