The Hobbit Hole XXXV - ...is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

Posted on 01/03/2008 6:35:58 PM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Me either, I think we only saw about four movies last year.

I don’t really know the story of Sweeney Todd.

Probably will see “No Country for Old Men” eventually, and maybe “There Will Be Blood,” too...but didn’t want to watch either in the theater. I think both of those are pretty gory, too.

My brother said Juno was surprisingly good, but again, it doesn’t sound appealing enough to watch in the theater.

Heh...so far, the only things I’ve seen in the local theater have been operas. I is a snob. Or something.

I haven’t seen any movie movies in the theater since I’ve been here. I do have Netflix. Lately I’ve mostly been watching TV DVDs, though. “All Creatures Great and Small”, “Inspector Morse” and “Law and Order” at the moment.

I’d somehow completely missed ever seeing a single episode of Law and Order. I’m a couple episodes into the first season now...very cool show. I think I’m hooked. I have a two day wait right now for the next disc. *twitch*

We got out some anime yesterday... going to try to finish off some series we started ages back while exercising. The one we’re watching now, “Kaleido Star” is very cute and funny. I’d recommend checking if Netflix has it and get the first disk! It’s just a nice lighthearted story about a girl who wants to be a star gymnist.

Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd...he served a dark and an angry God...

It's a dark story. Basically Todd is a former prisoner turned barber. He sets up his shop over top of a shop that sells meat pies. Let's just say that thereafter the lady running the shop doesn't have trouble getting the supplies for her meat pies.

My favorite song from the stage show is "We'll serve anyone at all..."

And from that song. "The parson is a bit dry..."

What a beautiful afghan!! I love the colors, and it must be so soft, with that boucle yarn!
Ravelry...I like it!

I heard he played an Eastern European, or Russian mobster in that movie. I haven't heard much about it; I've only caught the last few seconds of the trailer.

We watched Oceans Thirteen the other night. So funny! Al Pacino played the 'bad guy' casino owner this time. We have Ratatouille, too, so we might watch that tonight, before plunging back into "Babylon 5"

I hadn’t heard of it until I saw the nominee list.

We got Clare a set of “Scrapped Princess” DVDs for Christmas, and Paul bought her a couple of “Cardcaptor Sakura” movies.

Oh my...

So...it’s kind of a serial killer musical comedy? ;-)

Twisted...yet intriguing.

I'll have to check the nominee list. We didn't go to the movies much last year, either, and the ones we did see are likely not to be on the list; Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc.

I don’t think it’s considered a comedy. But that song is funny, in a perverse kind of way.

I think Pirates got something for art direction or something like that.

Several weeks ago, we watched a 1998 re-make of Sweeny Todd (not a musical) that starred Ben Kingsley. Not a lot of blood and gore, and, well, since it starred Ben Kingsley, you know it was good. LSA

I’m not familiar with that version. But with Kingsley, I’d like to see it.

I’m most familiar with the Sondheim stage version with Angela Lansbury (she won a Tony for her performance as Mrs. Lovett).
