SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Police are investigating whether several items found in the enclosure of a tiger who fatally mauled a 17-year-old man show that the animal was attacked or taunted, San Francisco Zoo spokesman Sam Singer said Wednesday.
Police are examining a large rock, a tree branch and other items, Singer said.
"They [police] are trying to make a determination that those items or any other things that happened on Christmas Day were part of some attack on the tiger or something that angered Tatiana, causing her to come out of her cage," the spokesman said.
San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong has said that a shoe print found on the railing at the tiger enclosure is being examined to determine if one of the victims climbed over the rail or threw their leg over the side.

That makes sense. All Red Eye said was that the men had slingshots. Red Eye hardly qualifies as news in my book.
I feel very bad for the tiger.
But not an ounce of sympathy for the so-called victims.
They had it coming, just as if they had played in traffic at rush-hour.
And this is as clear as can be to me. Why it isn’t just as clear to everyone is beyond me.
Only if your goal is to taunt the crap out of the tiger. Otherwise, there are many zoos with the same type of enclosure throughout the world.
It would have been rough justice if the tiger had enough time to finish off those two thugs.
That is simply insulting. Speaks volumes about you.
Well said.
There are other zoos with 12.5 feet. One bit of advice is you dont use a slingshot to whip stones at a tiger while standing on an enclosure rail while drunk on vodka. For example.
I believe there is also a moat.
Scotsman will be an idiot?
Get a sense of humor, and learn a little bit about police appointments. Your lack of knowledge and a sense of humor speaks volumes about you.
Jack Hanna also retracted that statement.
If these kids hadn’t taunted this tiger, the tiger would still be here today.
It would have been rough justice if the tiger had enough time to finish off those two thugs.
The fact that the tiger got out proves my case. Care to prove yours that the kids were actually taunting the animal?
You are another dour fool.
My guess is that if she just caught a killer you would not have made that statement.
Heck, we all know it’s not a guess.
ROFL!
IF (and that will only be known later, if ever) the dead and injured kids did any taunting, then the ONLY check written better be from the dead and injured kids to the zoo to pay for a new tiger.
If an innocent was injured, then the dead and injured kids can pay for that too.
It doesn’t prove anything. People can do extraordinary things such as lift cars when there children are in danger. Do you think it is any different with tigers when they are taunted?
