Landmark Exhibition at Israel Museum
icom.org
December 31, 2007
The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, presents Looking for Owners: Custody, Research, and Restitution of Art Stolen in France during World War II, an exhibition tracing the story of works of art looted by Nazi forces in France during the Second World War. Organized by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture and Communication, in collaboration with the Israel Museum, this landmark exhibition draws from the collection of works of art in France known as Musees Nationaux Recuperation (MNR).

On view from February 19 through June 3, 2008, Looking for Owners brings together more than fifty paintings to explore the complex history behind the MNR holdings, with specific focus on the progress over the last ten years in tracing rightful ownership. The exhibition features the work of major European artists, including Eugene Delacroix, Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Claude Monet, and Georges Seurat.

Approximately 60,000 objects that were taken from France and brought to Germany during World War II, either through looting or commercial transactions, were repatriated to France after the war. Of these, 2,000 objects that could not be restituted due to a lack of clear ownership history or because they had not been looted, were given in custody to the French National Museums.

They did not even notice the Turkish and Armenian aspect.

Not only the Armenian but the Assyrians and Greek populations (all Christian) were virtually wiped off the face of the earth...all but disappeared from the face of Anatolia (today Turkey)

The most sickeningly deranged aspect of all this is that Academia still insists on a mythical “gentle peaceful Co-existence” among Muslim Jews and Christians - during the Ottoman and Spanish oppression.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

read Andrew Bottom’s essays-—very important!

The Burning Tigris by Balakian is also pretty good.

Public Education Ping

This list is for articles relating to public education.

SoftballMominVA, Gabz and I have been asked to take over the list so that Metmom can concentrate on home schooling issues. If you want on or off this ping list, please FReepmail this month’s keeper of the list, SoftballMominVA.

Good piece but it only highlights the obvious. Ideology trumped academic scholarship and integrity in the 1960s when Neo-Communists stormed and took over American campuses. Most universities have become mere indoctrination mills, grinding out cookie-cutter man-hating feminists, green Gaia worshipers, La Raza radicals, homosexual activists, Marxist "journalists," etc. to help in the Marxist objective of destroying traditional American culture.

For the historically inclined, the process really began in the "Red decade" of the 1930s. As M. Stanton Evans points out in his magnificent book about Joe McCarthy, "Blacklisted by History," one of the architects of the process was Willi Munzenberg whom Evans describes as a "famous impresario of deception."

Munzenberg dedicated himself to promoting the Soviet interest in America. "We must penetrate every conceivable milieu, get hold of artists and professors, make use of cinema and theaters, and spread abroad the doctrine that Russia is prepared to sacrifice everything for peace." He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams. Much of the campus activism we see today consists of chameleon-like make-overs of the same Marxist-Leninist goals.
