I have always admired Van Gogh as one of the most passionate, intelligent, and sensitive men who ever lived.

He loved the golds and yellows. When you read about him and read his letters you see a man that simply has too much inside of him! He would never be satisfied.

In his whole life, I think he sold only three paintings, for what would be less than a cup of Starbucks might cost you.

His works border the impressionist realm, but leave more than enough of the classical to see the struggles (and successes) of the subjects.

I’ve always found his times and circumstances deeply moving.

Indeed. And while the song is titled about one of his most famous, if not the most famous painting he ever did, it showed briefly a shot of what I still think is better, a painting done a year earlier.

By chance I wound up going to a special exhibit of Van Gogh at the Detroit museum, hmm, probably 2000 or 2001. I’m not a fan of anything past some of the PRB and representational Victorian painters, other than Dali, but will say I’m glad I saw the Van Gogh works in person. As with the impressionists’ stuff, prints and even photos do NOT do them justice. Particularly with Van Gogh, the work is very bright, lively, sometimes even a little too vivid (scary). :’) Thanks for the ping.
