Hospital Creek, in St. Augustine. The Great Egret has a crab in its beak if you look closely. Happy New Year, Freepers!!
Happy New Year, Swampsniper! You always take such great pics!
Looks like that here (eastern NC) today. Sounds like we’re in for a rude awakening in the next day or so!
Curiosity question—I’ve seen lots of the big birds—herons, etc. this year. We have almost no little birds. Have you noticed that in Fla this year?
Wow! That looks like one of those sea life murals by that guy that does the sides of buildings.
Thanks, I could bore you to death talking about that dive. By the way Swampsniper, (and all) Happy New Year to you! Do keep posting your wonderful pics.
Don’t dive—sinus problems and claustrophobic. Always thought it would be cool. I envy you! :)
We have Atlantic bottlenose dolphins here. They’re gorgeous and you can get really close to them.
My husband works for Marine Fisheries. Last year he participated in a dolphin rescue. A baby got tangled up in some old net. Husband was the one who got the baby in the boat—unfortunately it was too stressed and weakened from infection. It didn’t make it. I’ve always wondered why we feel such a kinship with dolphins—almost like dogs with gills.
"Nemo me impune lacessit [No one assails me with impunity]."
When I got married in 68 my wife moaned and whined until I stopped diving, I should have seen what was coming and headed for the islands! Great dolphin shot!
“We have almost no little birds”.
Very cool pictures to both of y’all.
Thanks!
We’ve had a bad drought this summer, altho we’ve gotten more rain than the rest of the state. Don’t know if there aren’t any birds because there aren’t any seeds/insects because of the drought. Shrug. Usually we’re inundated, and we were most of the summer, now they’re all gone. Vacationed in the mountains of NC in Aug. No birds. In a week’s time, I think we saw/heard 5. We were right on a big lake and it was down, but still—I would have thought there would have been birds aplenty.
I work in a feed and seed. Everyone is saying the same thing and our bird seed sales are way down.
Not many hummingbirds this year, either. Usually they’re like flies, and we love them. Figured the hurricanes farther south got them.
