Megadeth's Dave Mustaine Was A Parasite Magnet Singer had 51 parasites found in his body after tour
WASHINGTON (AP) - Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine never realized when he hit the road, how much of it he brought back with him.
Mustaine says he went to see a health practitioner who did an analysis of his body.
She told him he found 51 parasites in his body, many of which were varieties of worms.
He couldn't believe it.
He says he's sure he picked all that up staying in less-than-clean hotel rooms and other hazards of being on tour.
It doesn't stop him from freaking out that he's going to catch germs from fans.
Mustaine says he has fans cough into their hands and then shake his, or they give him hugs.
He says part of the hazard of his being so outgoing and affectionate is that he's sick a lot.
He’s probably glad he got kicked out of Metallica now.

OK, thanks. Just asking. Seems a bit weird to have a mite specialize on the optic nerve. Wonder how the little critter gets there? And what’s up with these eyelash mites?
The eyelash mites make more sense, maybe the optic nerve mite is just a skin mite that moved?

Skeptical of the optic nerve mite business. As far as I know mites live on the surface of the body, not deep inside it. Unless I’m confused, the optic nerve is behind the eyeball, which doesn’t sound like mite territory to me.

Only about 10% of the cells in the human body are human, with human DNA.
Most of the rest are commensal (and sometimes parasitic) bacteria in the gut. This is possible because bacteria are so much smaller than most human cells.
Another neat factoid: about 90% of the dry weight of human feces are bacteria.
