Shooting accident kills man at Houston gun range

A man was fatally shot during an accident at a west Houston gun range, police said.

The 45- to 50-year-old man died after he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at American Shooting Centers in the 16500 block of Westheimer Parkway, Houston police said.

The incident happened about 6:40 p.m. Authorities say they believe the injuries were caused by a rifle.

No other details were immediately available Wednesday night.

Oh dear. Holding a loaded firearm by the wrong end.

Very sad.

Thanks for the update and the card.

Merry Christmas to you and Eaker.

Very damn sad.

If I was justly punished for the stupid stuff I've done, I would not have seen 30 years old.

***Here in Tulsa, Oklahoma,***

I qualified for my CMP rifles at the Red Castle Gun Club. I also know the shooting range you are talking about.

This guy was a friend of mine. Very good man with a wanderful wife. It is a trajic accident and for those who are asking it was done while messing with his rifle either loading it into or out of his truck. He was there to sight in his gun and it was a 25-06. We have all hunted over 20 and 30 years so let this be a lesson to make sure your guns are unloaded at all times when not using them.,

His name will be released so why don't you release it now in case any of us know him?

Looks to me like the guy was in a hurry stowing his rifle and made a couple of mistakes.

What's even more freightening is, he apparently left the range area and walked to the parking area with a loaded weapon and a closed action...all against standard range rules.

He could have plugged an innocent bystander between the range and his car...

I’d take it with a grain of salt, there is a rash of 12/21 signups. I counted over 20 on another thread.

This could be one.

Wrong, the correct response is to handle all guns as if they were always loaded. Reason being is, you never know when exactly you might need to use it.

God bless him. It could have been many of us, who have made worse goofups without paying such a heavy price.

Prayers for his wife...

Yep, I train my kids and others to live and breath Col. Cooper’s rules.

That gun is ALWAYS loaded, and a slug is about to launch from that barrel ANYTIME, so it must always be pointed at things that can’t be hurt, or things you want to hurt.

Not that I want to be preachy and so on at a time like this. As I’ve said, if I had gotten my just desserts for my big mistakes, I’d not be here today.

Did you hear about the big boom at the T2 chemical plant in Jacksonville this week? Killed or disappeared about 10 workers, wrecked other busineses 1/4 mile away. They were making something to do with octane boosting chemicals for gasoline, and they had a “runaway” chemical situation.
