Martin Scorsese’s “Last Waltz” about The Band was an amazing piece of work. I doubt this will eclipse it. But who knows until it is is out..

Hard to say. It culminates in a concert for Bill Clinton’s birthday only it was months after the date of his birth.

The founder of Atlantic Records slipped and died of the complications backstage at this show.

Scorcese’s Dylan doc didn’t seem too hot to me.

This film has been pimped as being better than his Band film but who knows?

How about ranking the existing Rolling Stones films (documentaries and concert films) first?

Here’s a list of Rolling Stones films to discuss:

> Rolling Stones: The Biggest Bang (2007) (4 disc boxed set)
> Rolling Stones: Forty Licks World Tour (4 disc boxed set)
> The Rolling Stones: Bridges to Babylon (1998)
> Rolling Stones: Voodoo Lounge (1995) (TV)
> At the Max (1991)Let’s Spend the Night Together (1983)
Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones (1973)
C***sucker Blues (1972)
> Gimme Shelter (1970)
> The Stones in the Park (1969)
> The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus (1969)
> Sympathy for the Devil (1968) ... aka One Plus One
Charlie Is My Darling (1966)
The T.A.M.I. Show (1964)

And then there is that 2x25 or whatever it was called from the 1980s.

> marked titles are all officially released on DVD (some like Stones In The Park are UK releases)

I collect music concerts, movies and documentaries. I still have some “out of print” ones on VHS My The Waltz dvd is the only one I actually threw away. Well, I sold it at a garage sale for a buck.

I really WANTED to like it. It was too pretentious to bear.

I just rented “Stoned” on Monday. I stopped it a little over an hour into it and returned it.

It was too pretentious to bear. Ditto. I own it and doubt I'll ever watch it again.

Yeah, if Shine a Light comes anywhere close to The Last Waltz I'd be mighty surprised. First of all The Band was at (or near) the top of their game -- still in their 30s. Secondly they're better musicians than the Stones. ...and were a much better live band. And lastly The Band's guest list in Nov. of '76 was second to none.

Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense, if only for the fact that you never see a film camera but once in the whole movie and that's there because it can't be helped. I've never liked most concert films because I'm usually watching some guy's back while he's wandering around down front. Oh, and the music is very, very good!

My all time favorite is Pulse, by Pink Floyd. Even though it is in the old video standard, it is the most visually stunning and emotionally moving concert I have ever seen.

The Eagles concert in Australia is another one. And I didn’t even LIKE the eagles before I got that one.

Frankly though, usually if you don’t like the group, you probably wouldn’t like the concert video.

I love my Genesis videos but they are an acquired taste.
