About 40 percent of adult Japanese men sit on the toilet to urinate -- a staggering figure almost three times the number recorded in 1999 -- according to a survey by Western-style toilet manufacturer Matsushita Electric Works Ltd.
The survey of 518 men and an identical number of women whose ages ranged from their 30s to 50s showed that the younger the man, the more likely he is to sit down while peeing instead of the traditional method of standing up.
The 40 percent of men who sit while urinating is almost three times more than the 15 percent of men who did so when the company first started surveying toilet habits in 1999.
"Women hate it when urine sprays, so there appears to be an increasing number who are asking men to sit down on the toilet when they have to go," a Matsushita Electric Works spokesman said.
Matsushita Electric Works noticed the increasing tendency for Japanese men to sit on the toilet while urinating and started three years ago to accommodate the trend in such ways as designing toilet seats with larger holes.
The survey showed that 46 percent of men in their 30s sat while weeing, 38 percent of men in their 40s did so and 37 percent of men in their 50s also followed the trend. Matsushita believes mothers getting their young children to sit on the toilet when they urinate are also getting their partners to adopt the same practice.
60% of Japanese Men Don’t Have to Clean the Toilet.
You are not alone.
Where in God’s name did that pic come from....? LOL
If you have a source for that, I'd like to distribute the info.
I don’t care what people do, but there is a “no open door” urination policy in my house.
Since you asked nicely.

FWIW, I actually disagree with the whole "bathroom etiquette" stuff regarding the seat and toilet paper.
You'd be surprised at how much its a hot button topic with advice columnists.
Maybe they’ve all got prostate problems from all that fish and saki?
I lived on a golf course, where we had many Japanese visitors. We noticed that the Japanese men liked to urinate on trees, along the course, even where the course ran right along the road. There were rest rooms at various spots along the course, but the Asian men preferred to STAND and pee on the trees.
I really believe no one knows what % of anybody does anything in the bathroom or bedroom. But it fills up a cold Friday morning.
I honestly think its a waste of time and money to even research this.
I am not going to sit in most of the public restrooms I have visited. You never know what is lurking on the seats. I don’t believe most women would choose to sit if their plumbing was different.
You also have to remember, Japan has a tradition of squat toilets. Western toilets are used for handicap toilets.
I lift the lid and seat and home and then close both when I’m done.
In public I lift the seat with my foot and leave it up.
Living in a home full of females I’ve given up trying to convince them to put the lid down.
I sit in the middle of the night when I have to go. I’m too tired and too blind without glasses to aim. And I dont want to be further blinded by turning on a bright light either.
