Dear FRiends
It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.
Every religion has this sort of stuff, you know. Why just pick on Mormons? Orthdox Jews have absurd Mitvoh that only they recognize while all other Jews just roll their eyes, Catholics have their Shroud of Turin and preposterous Vatican-acknowleged insertions of the Virgin Mary into Mexico City thereby supplanting an Aztec fertility goddess to win over the Mestizo indians. Anglican Protestants used to call the English monarch the head of the True Church on Earth at the same time they declared 'No King But Jesus'. Islam is full of hypocritical insanities and any Imam can call for a fatwa that all other Muslims must honor. Don't even get me started on Hindus and Buddhists, although the latter are the least offensive religious adherents on Earth in my opinion. Shinto even produced divine kamikaze pilots.
Every religion has these inanities. It's just that some are ancient and others are relatively modern.
Whatever happened to staying out of another American's religious business? I recently took a political poll and found out that I am closest to Huckabee in ideology, but I want him to know that there's no assurance whatsoever that I'd vote for him if he doesn't keep his snake-handling Pentacostal speaking-in-tongues mouth shut on other candidate's religion.
I'm not voting for Huck but it's nice to learn that there is a Baptist Minister who "speaks in tongues" and is a snake handling Pentacostal.
It would sure be cool if he brought some snakes to a debate. Just so we could watch and see which of the other candidates squirm.
Herbert Hoover as well.
Crickets.......
The Mezzuzah at our door usually stopped them in their tracks, but on the few occasions that some cute girl would offer me a Watchtower, I usually noticed that on the back cover there would be a picture of Jehovah's Witness heaven with toddlers riding atop tame lions and teenagers hugging friendly grizzly bears and a guy feeding crocodiles by holding an apple on his outstretched palm.
So, is Dwight D. Eisenhower in that sort of heaven even after lighting Europe on fire with the help of the 8th Air Force? Are there any religious FReepers condemning that Republican president for being a Jehovah's Witness? You just GOTTA know Jehovah's Witnesses are weird and dangerous, what with their peace and love and forgiveness and compassion and all that rubbish.... Right?!
Well it does. He and Romney have good looks, are the "second coming" in their respective beliefs, believe they were spirits before this life on two planets, one Kolob and the other Xenu, believe they have many lives as spirits etc. Both follow a human who invented their religion and see him as a prophet greater than Christ. Much similarity between the two. Scientology calls itself a "church", now has the occult cross of Crowley for its symbol, members progress through works, behavior, paying money ( a lot like forced tithing), if they are all paid up they get to go to special temples and do special stuff, plus have special clothing to wear inside. Lots of similarities. What's wrong with having TomCruise for president? At least he doesn't hide what he believes in, and it's a religion. Why should we question his discernment and no one elses?
So, what is your point? LOL...
Try the English spelling, Glastonbury.
He was a Jehovah's Witness like I am a Mormon.
He left that faith as a young man and joined the military. Although he was probably never officially excommunicated from the JW's, as an adult, Eisenhower was baptized, confirmed, and became a communicant in the Presbyterian church. The fact is that almost nobody knew he grew up as a Jehovah's Witness and he was most certainly never a practicing JW.
FWIW, Romney is not only a practicing Mormon, but he has close relatives who were apostles and prophets and he was a Bishop.
Apples/Oranges
Would probably be more entertaining then the debate the other day, that’s for sure.
You have managed to get FR mentioned in all kinds of left wing blogs and some of the posts dragged over here. I don't know what Jim's opinion of THAT is, but be sure and let him know that you and you alone deserve the credit. Remember, YOU were the one bewailing this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.???
Jveritas has his/her "fifteen minutes of fame" and all this publicity will encourage more and more to investigate the false doctrines of mormonism at sites like: Exmormon.org, Utah Lighthouse Ministry, one very informative, Real Mormon History, Teleport.com
I personally want to thank you for increasing the FR audience to witness the attempt by the Romney supporters and mormons here to censor free speech. It's been done for months now, and it may well suceed here, but unfortunately, Mitt can't censor the rest of the country, can he?
greyfoxx39 it sounds like jveritas is about to ban you. Step lightly.
Would you say it is an attack on Mormons to simply ask them if their Church REALLY believes that Jesus and Satan were spiritual brothers and both literal spiritual sons of the Heavenly Father in a pre-mordial life.
I mean just to ask the question?
Is that an "attack"?
