Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

It can be very upsetting for me. Some posters seem to overflow with hate for certain candidates. It was very bad a few months back when some had very long anti-Morman essays that they would cut and paste savaging all mormans.

Lakeshark,

Apparently you have not read up on Wesley very much. His “attacks” on a theological level on Catholicism are legendary!

His published works contain many references to the incorrect theology and practices of Catholicism and I believe he responded in “letters to the editor” to several Newspapers as well.

I dare say if Mormonism were around during his day, his approach would have been the same.

To: P-Marlowe You know what I find absolutely fascinating is how the Romney bots and the LDS apologists on this forum have succeeded in branding anyone who would dare to ask a legitimate question regarding the beliefs and practices of Mormonism as a bigot. I don’t even care about that. I’m willing to grant, for the sake of this discussion, that asking Mitt about Mormon distinctives is “illegitimate”.
That doesn’t matter. If Mitt is the nominee, they aren’t even going to ASK him the questions.

What they ARE going to do, week after week, is teach America, so everybody knows, about the seer stones, the fleshly God, Reformed Egyptian, the wives, Kirtland, all of it.

This isn’t bigotry, and it isn’t even really an attack.

By November, 2008, though, the poll answer to “would you vote for a Mormon” will mean something, because by then every voter in America will know everything there is to know about the LDS, whereas now they know little or nothing.

Mormonism is a luciferian doctrine it is not Christian and tries to hide under that cloak in order to survive...

And survive it has... affluently and with much influence in DC

Mormons,Jehovah’s Witness,Christian Scientists,Masons,Skull n Bones,Kabbalahists, etc etc etc..the insiders hold nearly the same views and share many of the same rituals...

Folks have no problem with Masons,Skull and Bones running the show..why sweat a Mormon?

I don’t actually see why a Mormom would be all that bad — unless they’re one of the pedophile polygamists. Still — I don’t see why a candidate’s religion shouldn’t be a topic to discuss because his choice in religion is significant and can say much about him — although with the Clintons the choice of religion was entirely contrived.

If someone is willing to sacrifice unborn children on the altar of political expediency, then maybe we should think twice about throwing our support behind him. Especially in a primary election.

There are much better choices than Mitt Romney. Unfortunately none of them have Romney's money.

What would happen if the contrast were sharper? What would happen if the candidate's name was Ezra Taft Benson? Benson was tied far more closely to the LDS faith and its controversies as President or whatever they have, but he was also far more conservative than Mitt Romney. He was a strict Mormon but also a strict constitutionalist. Could we overlook the religious test in that case?

As Secretary of Agriculture Benson personally opposed farm subsidies even though many Mormons benefited from them but in a second twist he faithfully oversaw the programs which Eisenhower supported.

Yea, sure... And Muslims worship the same God that we do. Yada, yada, yada.

Christian churches in addition to believing in Christ, Generally Follow the New Testament, not write their own.

So, your statement is your opinion, and that’s not worth much.
