Dear FRiends
It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.
Good luck with this. I’ve brought this up a couple of times. Not an exchange of ideas anymore, it’s an all out attack on a church performed by the same dozen or so self-proclaimed defenders of the faith with their chest-beating, I’m holier than thou, I’m the only one who knows Christ’s mind, I’m the one only one who knows the way, over the top, on the forum 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, zealots who ought to put the judgement stick away before someone much larger and much wiser pounds them to hell with it. Literally.
Hurry! HeMan Mormon Haters Club! She’s on the thread! Post the MEAN pictures! Make fun of her home page! Run around in circles hysterically! Hurry!
Concur...but is it okay to claim that Mitt is the antichrist?
Why do people need to "have an opinion" on another person's religion rather than practicing their own faith?
God is greater than all this quibbling; just spend time with Him.
We have a right to be snotty...we're rich and you aren't, so therefore you don't matter a witt!
Now that is a great flame!!!
Romney is in association with Mormonism. You decide. I've presented my take on it, If you disagree, tell me why.
Can you refute their scripture? Go ahead, tell me why the book of Abraham (http://scriptures.lds.org/abr/) is not LDS scripture.
Moses' props were actually from the great sky magician so it's very different.
Is that any way to talk about a POTUS candidate? By calling him a flipping man?
oh you said men not man.
Okay, I've decided that it is indeed an attempt at establishing guilt by association. If you're willing to engage in that kind of logical fallacy in your decision making, then I'm not particularly inclined to pay much attention to your arguments.
I am (by some Freepers definition) a bigoted hater.
Those kinds of definitions, aren’t kind, aren’t worthy of anyone calling themselves a Freeper, and certainly can shut down conversation, a two way street. Some of what I’ve seen in the back and forth on religious or political threads have touched some nerves on both sides of the issue, but that is no excuse.
...and thanks for all the positives I’m truly uplifted, honest!
My mother is vivacious, attractive, and charming. She is a Mormon.
My mother will be 90 in Feb, she is suffering from the same SLC problems I am, of slack abs etc, but she is hanging in there.
You got anything good to say about liberals?
That is a tough one. Lets, see, since they are about 50 percent of the population, it would be a good thing not to have liberals as your enemy.
Does that pass or do I need to work on it?
I totally agree with the author.
Overwhelmingly, the Mormon Community has retained those family values which made America so great in the past, and more Americans should emulate those values.
Exactly. I wonder how many people would like to see Tom Cruise as President? He's a nice looking man, apparently law-abiding, wife (well several) and kid. That he has apparently been led to believe that he is Scientology's Christ might be problematic don't you think? What about his belief in engrams, psi meters, Thetans and all that extra-terrestial stuff. Tom says one can be a Christian and a Scientologist, so what's the problem?
Hey, no fair, you slipped that one in while I was answering your diversion post, and I’m not very fast, unless I’m driving a car.
Only two questions of theology and religion do I need replied to:
1) Do you love the Lord God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength,
2) Do you love your fellow human being and wish for them blessings at par with or greater than your own?
All else is fool’s fodder.
Excellent post.
Another excellent post. I see what you see and I feel your pain.
That's part of the problem right there. An LDS member will say "I believe in Christ" where the anti-LDS poster will say "You don't believe in Christ you just believe in someone with the same name". That is an attack on the LDS faith diminishing the importance of Jesus Christ in our religion.
It along the same lines as claiming that the LDS Church believes Jesus Christ is only a prophet and not divine. Yes I have seen this statement here at FR and it is false. Also an attack on the LDS faith again diminishing the importance of Jesus Christ in our religion.
If I say "the LDS Church believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God", then a someone else says "My church believes Jesus Christ IS God incarnate" that is absolutely fine with me. Shows the differences between the two religions. Neither is directly attacking the others religion and only talking about their own religions beliefs.
From there an honest civil discourse can happen between the two and hash out what each believes and each can honestly learn something about the other faith, and maybe even strengthen each others testimonies about their respective faiths.
On the other hand if I say "the LDS Church believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God" and someone chimes in with the anti-mormon talking points of "the mormons believe that God and Mary had sex!" that neither is honest (that is not at all LDS doctrine nor common belief), nor does it do anything to teach others about their own faith. It is simply an attack on the LDS beliefs for the select purpose of trying to make the LDS church look bad regardless of the statement's accuracy.
I say what I believe, not other people. Even the current President of the LDS Church does not say what I believe. If he says something I have questions about I think, pray, read the scriptures (and I go to the Bible first, then the BoM, followed by the PogP, then finally D&C), pray again, then make my own decision based on promptings of the Spirit. We as LDS members have been counciled to do this thing quite often on everything and not just follow our leaders on blind faith.
Yes there are many things I disagree with the leaders of the church on, most but not all of them are matters of policy and not doctrine. None of them are considered absolute "you have to believe this or you can't be LDS" doctrine. Then there are also things that I just don't know the absolute answer to, nor do I really care to because it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The supposed location of the Garden of Eden is an example, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Nope not at all.
“Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)”
None of that from me.
I’m just honest that the Mormon faith simply ain’t my “religional
cup of tea”.
And I otherwise respect observant Mormons for their day-to-day conduct.
Right (IMHO) now it seems that complaints about sniping at Mormon beliefs
should be directed to Huckabee Campaign Headquarters.
