Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

Hey if it's anything like the people who turned to Islam after 911 the Mormons should get some converts from all this public scrutiny of their religion.

The point is that it’s a fair question for anyone to ask.

What exactly is the question?

I wish folks would stop using liberal code-words like “attack” for open and honest debates in a freaking FORUM!

Debate is what FR was built on and FOR, if LDS members get their wittle feelings hurt because other conservatives want to know and understand every wacky detail of their religion, they NEED to move on. I don’t care HOW supportive they’ve been of the conservative cause. I for one am SICK and FED UP with their incessant whining about BIGOTRY every time their religion is prodded.

Somehow I’ve managed to have knock-down-drag-out debates with atheists, animal rights activists, liberals of the commie color, and even hard-core wiccans right here on FR without ONCE crying “bigot” “hater” or some other lame AZZ liberal catch phrase. I’m still here as are some of the folks I’ve passionately debated and even argued with.

I WILL NOT BE SILENCED BY WHINERS! If JR wants to let Mormons decide who stays and who goes then I’ll find my way to the door. But for now, what we are “BETTER THAN” is the whining crybabies who can’t stand on their own for what they supposedly believe in. Instead they run off crying how they were “attacked”.

Liberal: We must not tolerate those intolerant Christian Conservatives.
Mormons: We must not tolerate those intolerant Christian Conservatives.

Calvinist observer (scratching head): Romney looks liberal and now his supporters are looking liberal.

BTW, is this attempt to silence criticism of Mormonism what we can expect from a Romney presidency or his supporters?

demand for taut faces, lush lips and flat abs. Most shocking of all was the town that ranked first: Salt Lake City.

I have none of the above and don’t live in SLC. Isn’t SLC at least 60/40 non LDS?

PS, Anything positive, uplifting, (No pun intended) or good about Mormons, forthcoming from colorcountry today?

Mormons are Christians. There are many different forms of Christians. Some people, however, want to claim that only their denomination or sect have the right to call themselves Christians. I have met some such people.

I have come across numerous statements against Mormons here that can be described as nasty and bigoted - not merely expression of a difference in theological interpretation.

If he is the nominee, it will bite him (and all who support him) in the butt. Do you think Hillary is going to ignore this issue? She doesn't need the Mormon vote, but she sure as heck needs the black vote and she will do everything in her power to secure it.

How many blacks do you estimate would switch thier vote from Hillary to Romney if he belonged to some other religion?

I am saying that Mormonism is inherently racist. It is up to you to determine what Romney believes. He did in fact say that he follows the “faith of his fathers.”

Well said.

Wonder how many here (I hope few) would want to join forces with the notorious anti-Mormon anti-religion bigot, Lawrence O’Donnell per the following ugly, nasty stuff:

http://s65.photobucket.com/albums/h219/pjcomix/video/?action=view&current=Odonnellrant.flv

and

Hugh Hewitt - Theology 101 with Lawrence O’Donnell
http://hughhewitt.townhall.com/talkradio/transcripts/Transcript.aspx?ContentGuid=cb634a31-a45d-47fd-b285-d181b269d10c

O’D trashes the Catholic Church’s teachings, in addition to slamming the Mormon Church and holding Romney responsible for every aspect of Mormonism.

Incredibly, after O’D describes Joseph Smith as a criminal, he admits that he won’t say similar things about Mohammad because “I’m afraid for my life if I do.”

How upside down is that? O’D admits that he can totally slime Mormons because they are nice people, but he won’t dare do anything similar to Islam because some of them are not so nice. (If logical, he might conclude that trashing nice people and their religion is not nice, nor is it deserved or appropriate.)

But you're not trying to establish any kind of "guilt by association"?

Yes they are deranged over there. That’s because they have no moral values, guide or compass. If it feels good they do it.They are their own truth. God and His revelation and His only Son, Jesus, are not esteemed over there. Over here at FR, we still esteem the God of the Old and New Testaments. And always will

Sofaman, we are fighting this thing together.
I am appalled at the bigoted behavior on site here.
The vocal few are following false teachings, plain and simple, when they judge the faith of another.
This religious intolerance is not what America was founded on.

You got anything good to say about liberals?

My husband is good looking, honest, kind and hardworking. He is a Mormon.

My mother is vivacious, attractive, and charming. She is a Mormon.

My brother is dedicated, humble, and self-sacrificing. He too is Mormon.

I am (by some Freepers definition) a bigoted hater.

The constitution doesn’t forbid voters to apply a religious test to candidates in deciding how they vote. It stops the government from doing so.
