Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)

Dear FRiends
It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

I see your point, but really, I mean, come on...I think it’s a fair concern. Mitt believes J. Smith’s truth claimes, which are, to put it charitably, a little strange. If Louis Farakan were running, I’d want him to tell the country with a straight face that he believes white people were created by a mad scientist.

I have read the Book of Mormon, and found it very interesting. My beef with any large religious institution is all the man made rules and dogma that creeps in over time. But it doesn’t change one fundamental thing, if your heart is in the right place, you believe Jesus died to atone for your sins, and your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life, I look forward to lots of incredible times with you throughout eternity.
On the political side, Mitt had a really good day, and I would have no concern if he was the next President. I don’t know if I will vote for him in the primary, I still like Duncan, Huck, and Fred ahead of him, but he will no doubt get my vote in the general election if he is the nominee.

I think it was John Wesley who said that if he was drowning, he wouldn't care if the lifeguard was a good Christian......just that he was a good lifeguard.....
Nuff said.
Thanks for the attempt to make sanity reign here on this issue.

You should do a YouTube video like that Britney fan a few months ago. “Leave Mitt alone.”

You know exactly what I mean and I am sure you have some of the super nasty and disgusting anti-Mormons stuff posted here and that has nothing to do with religion differences.
No I don't.
And by stating that I have posted some of the super nasty and disgusting anit-Mormons stuff, you have just proved my point!

I hope that what you described is going on, but is not, it is very, very, very bad. Some people on FR, very few to be honest, consider Mormons as the sons of the Devil, that is not acceptable on a great forum like Free Republic.

Next someone is going to post a vanity saying that attacks on breastfeeding must stop! What attacks are you talking about? I’ve seen threads where the rather weird parts of the Mormon doctrine were exposed(with links to sources), just as I’ve seen threads where people exposed what they said were Baptists’ hatred of Roman Catholics.
And then there were the anti-Catholic threads worshipping that idiotic book about some fictional DaVinci code.

Some (not all) of the comments about Mormon doctrine here have clearly been intended as little more than mocking smears. Such comments don’t advance the cause of truth in either the spiritual or the political realm.

jveritas is 100% right. Any and all anti-Mormon attacks on Free Republic must stop or be pulled by the admin moderators.
FR rules should be imposed for repeat offenders.

I think that before Mitt Romney is nominated, everyone who might support him should be prepared for the avalanche of FACTUAL, ACCURATE information about LDS theology which will flood the nation, wall-to-wall and coast-to-coast, for the twelve weeks between the convention and the election.
The MSM is going to go all-Mormon, all the time.
Saying that the LDS church teaches that Satan is the brother of Jesus (for example) is not an anti-Mormon attack. It's the truth.
Most Americans either like, or ignore, Mormons.
Most Americans also don't know too much about Mormonism, and that, if Romney is the nominee, is going to change.

I disagree - a man’s path to faith, and the faith it leads him to, reflects upon his character. The Mormon religion has a background ripe for “higher criticism.”

While I do not support Mitt Romney, it's not because he's a Mormon.
IMO, Mormons are a lot like anyone else. They believe what they believe, right or wrong, and like everyone else there are good people and bad people among them, and some that only claim to be among them.
Some people believe that we come back to this earthly plane again and again until we perfect ourselves, some people believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again, some people believe that after he rose he appeared somewhere else later.
Which belief is correct? We'll know when we die.
Don't support a candidate because of their religon, but don't NOT support a candidate because they are of a sect of a religon that believes in loving your neighbor, the death and resurrection of Jesus, and a monotheistic G*d as long as they have the skills, talent, and experience to do the job.

Lakeshark,
Apparently you have not read up on Wesley very much. His "attacks" on a theological level on Catholicism are legendary!
His published works contain many references to the incorrect theology and practices of Catholicism and I believe he responded in "letters to the editor" to several Newspapers as well.
I dare say if Mormonism were around during his day, his approach would have been the same.
To: Grunthor
If someone believes in our Lord Jesus Christ than he or she is a Christian. If you want to have a religious/theological debate on who is Christian and who is not then Protestants will be fighting Catholics and Catholics will be fighting Orthodox and every sect will claim that they are the real Christians and others are not based on just strictly narrow dogmatic views. Do you want Free Republic to descend to this level? I do not.
