It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.
I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.
If he is the nominee, it will bite him (and all who support him) in the butt. Do you think Hillary is going to ignore this issue? She doesn't need the Mormon vote, but she sure as heck needs the black vote and she will do everything in her power to secure it.
This doctrine is a stain upon Mormonism and those who were Mormons before it was rescinded. Romney was one of those Mormons. He participated in the discrimination against Blacks. So did I when I was a Mormon. The Mormon gospel was not affimatively taken to the black population until after 1978. Even then it was only reluctantly taken to them.

I have seen even on this thread, Mormonism called a cult! Is that okay? The person making the statement feels that he is telling Mormons "the truth"! Is that okay? Is that an attack?
Here's the point: Is only your brand of Christianity is "the truth"? How about Catholicism? Is that not "the truth"? When a Southern Baptist told me, an Orthodox Jew that because I have not accepted Jesus, I am going to hell? Is that the truth? Or is it his VERSION of the truth?
It's true as he believes it. It is NOT true as I believe it. The point is that everyone has their version of "the truth". And when someone insults my beliefs by telling me that I am going to hell because I do not believe as he does, I see that as an insult to my religion. Because I believe that MY religion is "the truth".
The militancy of some who so stridently insult the beliefs of others to validate their own beliefs shows only their insecurity in those beliefs.
Don't tell me about "the truth". That's a cop out and only serves to excuse what should be embarassing and insulting behavior.
The point is that it’s a fair question for anyone to ask.

As to the going conventional I’m not sure what specifically you might be referring too, but certainly polygamy is probably one of those. Blacks and the Priesthood would be another. It is an interesting subject, but since the LDS Church is one of very few if not the only Christian church claiming to have a living Prophet of God at it’s head, you can see that going conventional in your mind would be something entirely different in the minds of those who believe the Prophet and the Church go in the direction given from on high.
To you that may sound like an easy way out, or gee just blame any changes on the Prophet. Some may agree, too easy, but the vast majority of Mormons believe the Prophet.

Certainly not. So I’ll asked you a similarly insipid question, do you think the 157 men women and children Gentiles killed at the Mountain Meadow’s Massacre was justified as a defensive action? It was after all due to the doctrine of Blood Atonement, supported by Brigham Young.
So yes, you are still in the damn liar category, because you try to tar me with the disgrace of Haun’s Mill when it was Joseph Smith who was inciting the riot at Far West. If you read the Reed Peck manuscript (a Mormon who served time with Joseph Smith at Liberty jail), he places the blame for the whole disaster at Smith’s feet, not at the governor’s. But I know the drill, “Reed Peck was an apostate and therefore can’t be believed”. A lot of other Mormons left the fold at Far West too because they figured out what a crook Smith was.

Except no extermination was carried out, there were a thousand Mormon men at Far West who could have been annihilated but they weren’t, and even the leaders weren’t summarily hanged. What if someone gave an extermination order and there wasn’t an extermination? (And no, Haun’s Mill was not an organized extermination. Anymore than Parley Pratt executing an unarmed Gentile).
Well, when I see an apology from the LDS for raising armed rebellions at both Far West and Nauvoo and then starting the Mormon War in Utah, then I’ll feel the state of Missouri did the right thing. But I’m not holding my breath waiting for the Saints to admit to anything. Perpetual victimhood is your game.
Would Mormons feel free to join either Catholic or Orthodox churches? No, because Mormons don’t consider their doctrine compatible with theirs.
I only referenced Evangelical Christian churches in my comment because that’s my experience.

I don't. Many, if not the majority, who visit FR don't leave all forums active; the filter is there for anyone who wishes to use them to limit the subject matter to those they have an interest in. It saves scrolling through headings about angelic pinhead terpsichory and holiday yam recipes. I wish there was a forum dedicated to the Daily fill-in-the-blank-talkshow-host threads, so I could filter those too. That's reason enough.
If you want to speak of wasted bandwidth, how about the zealots who cut-n-paste the same 10,000 word doctrinal screed over and over on threads purportedly dealing with presidential candidates. Now THAT'S a waste of electrons.

There are some very hateful Christians on here who are very anti-Catholic! I have learned to not even read what certain people say when the topic of anything Catholic comes up.But there are times when there is an honest misunderstanding that has been taken as truth for a long time but nothing can change some peoples mind.For me as a Catholic I know it is God that I love and it is he who will judge me.

Are you submitting that being a Mormon makes Mitt Romney a racist? If you are then say so. If not, then explain what it is that makes this relevant to his campaign and his credentials as a political conservative.
