Anti-Mormons Attacks Must Stop, FR is Better Than That (Vanity)
December 12 2007 | jveritas

Posted on 12/12/2007 6:27:59 PM PST by jveritas

Dear FRiends

It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech. Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum. People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.

I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol, this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.

[It really pains me to see some of those vicious anti-Mormons attacks we see on Free Republic disguised under the “freedom of speech.]

Thank God YOU are the final say on what people can and cannot think. Why, we’d all be in a real pickle if we were allowed to question whether electing a guy whose core beliefs were dictated through a peepstone found digging a well is such a wise idea.

Fortunately, all my ideas come though the broken bottom of a Coke Bottle, my “seer stone”. What my seer stone is telling me is that you have the brain of a pea.

Insane you say! Slanderous, YOU say! Actually, you are no longer allowed to say such ‘vicious’ things about me, because that would be questioning my Faith in the Coke Bottle Bottom - a strict No-No for anti-bigots such as yourself. So, by your own criteria, you must allow to stand my Faith Inspired Coke Bottle interpretation that you have the brain of a pea, else you would be guilty of vicious bigotry.

“Attacking people based on their Mormon faith is really disgusting and it is an insult to this great forum.”

As is attacking Gentiles who wish in any way to express Their faith. Are all Gentiles who speak up against Mormonism to be banned? I guess that would mean all Mormons who express a belief that Gentiles are wrong should be banned too? But of course, that isn’t the way you want things to work. You just wish to censor anyone who has a differing view from yours so you don’t have the hard work of defending LDS concepts like God the Father impregnating the ‘non’-virgin Mary.

I’m sure the Democrats will also roll over and play dead as well when you write a similar plaintif plea to them before the election.

[People who do not like Governor Mitt Romney based on his positions are free to express their opinion as such, but people who attack him because he is a Mormom should be ashamed of themselves and must not be allowed to do so.]

“must not be allowed”????? What would you suggest? Brainwashing? Having the opposition disavow their non-LDS Christian faith? Perhaps waterboarding would work to change everyone to your way of thinking?

“I greatly hope that Free Republic members and moderators will get together and help in stopping this anti-Mormon vitriol,”

Seems to me you are spewing quite a bit of vitriol yourself. Perhaps you should not be allowed to post - but I guess it’s “vitriol for you but not for me!””

“this great Free Republic must not be tainted by these shameless acts.”

I think Jim Robinson is exceedingly brave to have put up with the threats from people like you to censor open debate. I’m sure it hasn’t been easy keeping a lid on things.

Please post a link(s) to what you think are the most egregious examples of attacks on Mormonism in FR threads so I can look them over in the context of the entire discussion in the thread and decide.

LOL

Looks like you're using a totally double standard. Romney hisself is not claiming to have been visited by God the Father in 1830. And neither is Guiliani claiming to have the stigmata, so we're all good, eh? Your "logic" is totally screwed.

Oh my, how can I possibly respond to such brilliant retorts?

BTW your grammar is totally screwed.

Not if this thread is any indication. Jeeze. I am disgusted. The FRs are playing right into not only Huckabee’s hands with his “question” but right into the MSM and the DNC’s which Drudge says the DNC wants Huck as its dream candidate to run against Hillary.

I just realized you may not have had a chance to read the thread in order to get the context within which I made my remark @ #296.

It will make more sense to you once you read the entire thread.

“I’ve seen too many guys like Huckabee, though, who use religion for business or political advantage. I live in the Bible-Belt, bt I’m sure folks in Utah may have had the same kind of experiences with Mormons.”

That’s what I have a lot of experience with here in Nevada with Mormons. I am called a bigot for that, but I don’t like Huckabee for much the same reason. Guess I’m a bigot there too.

Read what you wrote, v e r y, s l o w l y...

“Rudy Giuliani’s Catholicism is not an issue in this campaign, mainly because he is at best a nominal Catholic. But if Rudy suddenly had a stigmata experience or claimed to have personally spoken with the Virgin Mary who told him to run for President, you can bet your bottom dollar that Rudy’s Catholicism would be getting some serious scrutiny. Well Romney is a follower of a character who in 1830 claims to have been visited by God the Father (who just happened to have a body of flesh and bone) and Jesus Christ and they told his character that all the other churches in the world (yours, mine, everybody’s) was is open apostasy and their teachers were all corrupt and that he should join no church. Romney has undoubtedly stood up a thousand times in his lifetime and bore testimony that this Character was a True Prophet of God and that Mormonism is the ONLY TRUE CHURCH on the face of the earth. Every good Mormon is expected to bear that testimony in front of their congregations.”

If we criticize Romney on his religion, then we may as well condemn Obama for being black, and Hillary for being a woman.

Once we’ve lowered ourselves to that point, there’s no depth we cannot sink to!

Issues are one thing, religion, race, etc is another. Let’s be above that.

I’m with you. Good post.

Unfortunately I think it would be wrong to censor people. If this how people are thinking, I think it is good to be able to discuss it to show them why they are wrong.

I hate to tell you, but I think this is only an issue for Evangalical Baptist Churches, all of whom happen to be Republican, I don’t think the Democrats will be able to make an issue out of it being that they are always preaching tolerance. They can’t go shooting themselves in the foot now can they?

Thank you. Some have forgotten what the First Amendment is about and how this country was founded. Thanks for reminding the forum.

I’ll ask it again. WHAT can anyone point to that is uniquely Mormon in anything that Romney has ever done in his public life? If you can’t come at Romney from this angle over his religion then you ARE a bigot.

“Most Americans also don’t know too much about Mormonism, and that, if Romney is the nominee, is going to change.”

Ain’t that the truth, and there is a dumptruck full of unsightly history and doctrine to flood America with. Wait till Blood Atonement gets its full expose, for one small example.

“Mitt, do you think Brigham Young was justified in killing apostates and Gentiles who strayed from Mormonism?”

“Mitt, do you think it was justified for your great-great grandfather, the polygamist, to be stabbed in the back with a Bowie knife for wife and children stealing?”

You can call these ‘vicious’ questions, but they will still be asked, over and over again.

Apparently you aren’t not aware that our Founding Fathers were not all Babtists, in fact, few if any were. They were often from Churches that would be considered eccentric by today’s standards. I think the Mormon Church has been a wonderful tradition to our History as a Nation. I see no reason why to knock them, they have wonderful patriotic families. Is there something wrong with that?

I agree.

I have about quit going on FR threads, as I am sick of the tone of some of these threads.

When I first became a freeper (lurker for so many years), I valued this forum because of the education I received about politics. But I am really sick of the attack mindset I see on here.

These attackers are not influencing me, except away from their candidate. They are not doing these candidates justice, or helping their cause.

Thank you for all the work you do, and info you provide.

Yes, the OP's accusation about you being a bully really makes me laugh.

You just gotta know he/she must get beaten up a lot.

Irritating people always feel surrounded by irritable people. It never occurs to them that they are their own worst enemy.

Another thing that is cracking me up is that this vanity is allowed to stay up in News/Activism (hence my current tagline).
