I think it quite acceptable to look into such matters for our Presidential candidates.
You all do recall when Billzo signed the Religious Freedom Restoration act specifically so his father's church could start using peyote on reservations, right?
Not that Romney or Giuliani would be getting into such things, but it's certainly more than fair to ask what the real doctrines of their churches are.
“It can be very upsetting for me. Some posters seem to overflow with hate for certain candidates. It was very bad a few months back when some had very long anti-Morman essays that they would cut and paste savaging all mormans.”
You should see what they do with Ron Paul. The billingsgate is endless.
AMEN.
I’ve been on FR almost 10 yrs and I think this is the first time I’m embarrassed by some of these posts.
I would hesitate to invite a friend to try FR at the moment.
Matthew 15:7-8 You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, And honor me with their lips; But their heart is far from me.
jveritas, I have loads of respect for you, but I think your blanket call for an end to anti-Mormon posting is a bit over the top. Under every post there is an abuse button and it’s there so that we don’t have to make vanity threads like this one. The moderators on this forum are excellent, but they can’t possibly read every post on every thread, so if you are seeing so many outrageous personal attacks on Mormons you need to be hitting that abuse button more often.
Discussion of different faiths brings forth lots emotion and defensive reactions, but I don’t believe those discussions should ever be banned from Free Republic.
You like playing the bully, don’t you?
Some people here have a very fluid, lax and flexible definition of exactly where your hole_n_one “is”.
Amen again. I am hesitant to stay myself. The stench is becoming so overpowering, but I did not want to abandon my fellow Mittwits, who have been so decent.

I’ve tried that button. Absolutely nothing happened.
Something that is inexorably related is the understanding that Jesus is the Christ. That he is by very nature God. Always was, always will be.
It is important to understand the very nature of Jesus, in order to understand Jesus' death. Unless Jesus was God incarnate, the Alpha and Omega, the great I AM, his death is meaningless and worthless.
This has been a remarkably civil thread ~ although it would be nice to have some REFERENCES.
How about this, you guys are DNC operatives and I should hit the abuse button.
Thank you very much Elyse. The problem has reached a critical mass and we need more freepers to be aware of the problem and hit the abuse button that you referred to.
Apparently you can read minds across the internet too....
What a stupid thing to say.
Btw.....the quote I posted from Wesley was true. So why don't you deal with the quote?
I can guess why....
Nuff said.
But it’s open season on Evangelicals, right? The “Huckster” must go down!
How about if we refrain from slamming any candidate? How about if we try to stick to the positions of each candidate and cut back on the ad hominem vitriol.
Not saying you’re doing this, jveritas. I’m saying that it’s far too common here on FR to engage in Hewitt-esque attacks on Huckabee. I’m not voting for Huckabee, but the attacks against him are pathetic.
If you believe a word you are saying, go ahead!
You believe it to be out-of bounds for me to request a specific example of a comment that meets the standard set by the originator of this thread?
I mean really, I even said please.
What do I care what his religious beliefs are? I know this. Anyone that attacks another based solely on their religion is a sorry excuse for a conservative.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
If we believe strongly on our Constitution why would we so blatantly fly in the face of these extraordinary sentiments?
A thousand Amen. Attacking Huckabee faith is very disgraceful and disgusting and I am going to fight anyone who does it.
Have I missed something here? I don’t remember any attacks about his religion. The attacks on FreeRepublic have been about his positions/lack of positions/change of positions and his willingness to say whatever it takes.
I would agree that no religion (except PaulBots) should be a determining factor. Romney is a fine man, just not the man to lead a Conservative revolution.
FRED THOMPSON (true consistent Conservative Federalist) - NATIONAL SECURITY EXPERT (I’ll do whatever it takes to stop the bastards, include water-boarding) - 2ND AMENDMENT ADVOCATE (arm all legal citizens and criminals will become more hesitant) - SECURE AND SEAL THE BORDERS (don’t give them sanctuary anywhere, don’t hire them, don’t rent to them, don’t give them credit, don’t give them rights they don’t deserve, report all crimes committed by them, they will go home or we will deport them) - LAW AND ORDER (enforcement first and foremost with the laws currently on the books) - SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM (reform a program that can’t sustain itself and will bankrupt this nation) - DEFEAT THE DEMOCRAT (any fool they put up) TAX SIMPLIFICATION (choice for the tax payer) - WON’T PUT UP WITH CRAP FROM THE MSM (including stupid questions by moderators) - PING!
