Who Would You Like to be President? (Vanity)
Greg F | 12/10/07 | Greg F

We have no clear front runner in the Republican primaries. Romney, Huckabee, Guilianni, and Thompson each look like they could possibly take different states. Could we end up with a split going into the convention (with no winner)? Is there a candidate outside of those running who could unify the party and win as a candidate selected at the convention?

Yes and then no.

Given who the dems are I will support the Republican nominee now matter who they are. And no Rudy is not just like Hillary. Hillary would not know how to fight the war on terror if it bit her in the ass.

I'd like to see Rudy get the Republican nod. Applying conventional wisdom, the Democrats are likely to win the Whithehouse. Rudy has the best shot of all of the Republican candidates IMO. I like (but don't really like) the guy. Essentially, my desire is largely pragmatic. He has the best shot of winning, particularly if Hillary emerges from the Dem primary. The only Dem I could stomach is Richardson and he has no chance. Therefore, my choice is the most pragmatic one: Rudy

What you say is quite possible if the Democrats have a candidate other than Hillary or Obama. How can you apply conventional wisdom with either of them as their standard bearer? It's impossible.

Why would you want two liberals to choose from?

Just once I would like to see a response that is NOT a question.

Because I may vote for Rudy if he is the nominee over Hillary does not mean in anyway the I am not a conservative, it only means that I DO NOT WANT the dems in control of the White House.

The key is this is the primary. I’m sure everyone (most) will vote for the R over hilldog any day, but we can work our butts off to ensure we don’t have to have a RINO in the R spot.

.. I think Fred can be the uniter (as stated in my previous post) and we don’t need to look at another candidate to unite us that isn’t listed.

Essentially, my desire is largely pragmatic.

Pragmatism that could get us socialized medicine, a liberal justice, continued partial birth abortion and gun control.

He has the best shot of winning,

I disagree. I think that Mitt, Fred and, even McCain could beat Hillary.

The bottom line is, conservatives should not have to settle for a yankee liberal wearing a Republican hat and trying to pass himself off as a conservative.

I'm supporting Fred. As Rush said, 'he's the only real conservative in the Republican field.'

No. Let's just draw lots and the short straw has to be President.

Well, you are really asking two different questions. Ideally, we would transplant John Bolton's mind into Arnold Schwarzenegger's body and solve all our problems. ;)

Welcome to FR. I don’t see Rudi as a pragmatic choice at all, and I think The Beest beats him like a stoopid redheaded stepchild in the general if they’re both their respective parties’ nominees. Been watching the news lately? Rudi’s got a LOT of problems for the dems to exploit, and believe me, The Beest WILL.
