There is no parole in federal prison. Early release is still possible. Lil’ Kim was released after 10 months of her 12 month federal prison sentence for good behavior.

Unfortunately, logical coherence seems to go out the window when it comes to issues involving Animals in our society.
Sadly, and somewhat surprisingly, that even seems to be the case on this Website, where the intellectual discourse is usually FAR better than every day society.
But what this thread demonstrates is that decades of work by the Radical Left has been very effective in transforming societal views of Animals and their place in Human society.
So, tell me, what sentence would some scum-of-the-earth dirtbag lowlife drug dealing non-NFL player received given the same charges? Only 2 years? Vic got off easy IMHO. He’ll be out in six months, and back to work in the NFL for next season. That’s my prediction, such as it is.
There is federal law against dog fighting. Although your points are valid, the main issue here is still dogfighting.
One need not be “for” animal torture to shake our heads in bewilderment.

I know someone who was in the federal prison camp in Marion, IL. He was in on a drug charge. He got a ten year sentence, but got out after serving just under nine years. Wonder if Vick’s going to get the same arrangement.
Absolutely. I guess I was badly making the point that if one is of the opinion that the federal government shouldn't get involved in local dogfighting cases, this was not just a local dogfighting case.

In some states, dog fighting is still a MISDEMEANOR and generally punished with probation.
In federal cases, the average defendant does receive jail time and Vick’s sentence is fairly close to average. Those convicted of the crime generally get around 5 years. Those who plead guilty, generally get 12-24 months. So it is consistent with what others get.
I just think the States that rate it a Misdemeanor are correct. 50 years ago, this would not have been a big issue and he may never have been charged. 20 years ago he would have gotten a slap on the wrist at most, but our societal values have been tossed on their head in recent years.
If I’m the judge, he gets 5 years Probation and a sentence which requires him to spend EVERY Saturday and Sunday for the next 5 years working in Community Service in an Animal Rights Shelter for free. That way he learns his lesson and is not allowed to play in the NFL because he’s at the Animal Shelter on Sundays. It sends the best possible message to all concerned that there are heavy consequences to your actions, while not perverting the basic fabric of our nation in elevating Animals to exalted status...
Let’s be honest here. If Vick ran an interstate bingo game or “March Madness” tournament pool, people would laugh at this.

Animal discussion (particularly as regards dogs) seems to bring out the irrational in people. Dogs are animals, not furry people. They aren't any better or worse than other domestic animals like cats, chickens, horses, sheep, ducks etc., yet they occupy the same place in our society today that cattle do in India's society.
