My daughter has just told me that during her pilgrimage to visit Gram Parson’s “grave” (his body was burned in the desert) at Joshua Tree, where she stayed in the supposedly haunted room where Parsons conked out, the motel owners gave her a potent joint that they said Robert Plant himself had left behind.
(Me, I don’t get this Parsons cult, especially by 20 year olds!)
“...the motel owners gave her a potent joint that they said Robert Plant himself had left behind...”
Is this like how every songwriter tells the multiple women in their life “I wrote this song for YOU...”
Heh heh, that’s terrific. Keith Moon off-beat.
My days of child rearing are long behind me. I’m thankful to say she turned out great with no major mishaps along the way! She loves all kinds of music...got her, and our s-i-l, the new Eagles album too.
Kids are pretty smart...they can figure, if we aren’t perfect now, that we probably weren’t perfect back in the day! Ha. (Of course, we don’t have to describe any past imperfections either...whew!)
Hopefully, they appreciate that we turned out well enough to be good parents; learned from our experiences; able to give them guidance, and to be pretty good examples for them, and - most of all - to love them more than anything in the world!
Along with the tremendous talent of LZ comes the sad legacy of John Bonham’s lifestyle and death (nothing glamorous about asphyxiating on your own vomit and dying in a drunken stupor), and Page’s heroin use. The only good thing to glean from that is the example provided as a teaching tool for young admirer’s all of these years later. There are a lot of good things to say about the talent and the music, but there are a lot of “if onlies” about the lifestyles that prevented it from being even better, and for a longer period.
Oh, well, sorry to let my memories turn into philosophizin’! Ha. LZ has been introduced to a whole new audience on television Cadillac commercials too. lol.
Great! More long, drawn out jams and scratchy, high pitched squealing from Plant.
To be fair, LZ really did seem to be moving into an interesting direction on "In Through the Out Door."
And remember, were it not for John Paul Jones, LZ would have been another two bit blues rock band a la Black Oak Arkansas.
Add me to the Zep ping list please!
I know what you mean...I was a “goody two shoes” in comparison too!! lol.
Added!
I'm late to the thread, but I just have to wholeheartedly agree with you. Heart (aka "Little Zeppelin") is my favorite band and Ann's voice is a huge reason why. Nobody comes close to her level of talent, IMO.
Nobody can touch her.
My older sis gave me a 1970’s Sansui component system. I hooked up the reverb amp, put in the “Little Queen” CD, and the sound was perfect: I could literally hear Nancy’s guitar strings squeak as her fingers slid on the neck, and I could hear Ann inhale in between lines.
“Barracuda” is one of the greatest rock songs ever. Period.
