MIKE HUCKABEE: Ive been to Guantanamo, I was there, I guess its been about a year and a half ago. I think the problem with Guantanamo is not in that its facilities are inadequate. Its the symbol that it represents. Its clearly become a symbol to the rest of the world as a place that has become problematic for us as a nation. I was quite frankly impressed with the quality of the facilities and even the attention to care that was given to the detainees, but that aside, it doesnt alter that Guantanamo to the rest of the world is a symbol that is not in our best interests to continue pursuing.

I’m really beginning to dislike this guy.
seebeS is now reporting that huck pardoned a rapist who then got out and killed and raped shortly thereafter. Makes for shades of “Willie Horton” for the huckster...
"Abolutely correct. If you don't agree with this, you are blind, stupid or some combination of both."
=========================================
No, another option is that perhaps we don't give a rip what the world thinks, or you either for that matter.
How so Mr. Huckabee?
Explain yourself, enough with the politician speak.
Of course he can’t, because he would sound like a leftwing appeaser, and our enemies would laugh their arses off.
just Huck off, mikey.
If he were {God forbid} to win the nomination, they'd be showing the before and after pix and comparing his weight to his flip-flopping on the issues.
By this logic anything the media and world spokesmen condemn then, we must flee from. That would include iraq and a border fence because that WOULD be defined as xenophobia in world press. No more arkansas presidents, please.
Thanks! Didn’t know it was for those who do not speak English! Another Freeper told me the same. Thanks for the info. :)
Actually if the US would like to stop being a beacon of freedom and hope and become more like the traditional empires that have come and gone than of course it doesn’t matter what the world thinks.
America will remain strong and dominant as long as possible and then fade like all other great powers have.
Of course, if America wants to recognize that what makes it different are upholding universal principles for human beings and that its power in the world is partly based on support due to sympathy for these positive attibutes then it does.
There will be no willing coalitions. There will fewer trading partners, there will be a gradual preference for others if the US does not care what the rest of the world thinks.
You two are clearly isolationists. That is neither suprising, nor hard to find. However it does corresdpond to the current reality. Although if you are consistent, I will make the assumption that you would like to pull troops out of Iraq and pretty much everywhere else in the world as well, return to a simpler, less globalized America and be happy and content with dimished power in fortress America.
A nice fantasy at least.
Nope. Not even close. Pull out our troops all over the world, and chaos would reign. Our bases in Europe and Japan are stablizing presences that help keep less-than-savory regimes at bay (well, in terms of overt, conspicuous military action that is).
However, the media has been a more than willing accomplice in painting Gitmo as the 'gulag of our time'.
Years from now, people will be looking back and wondering how in the world a place where terrorists across the board fattened up could be confused with the notorious Gulags of the Soviet Union.
That works even better for me. Lol.
Kind of like when Clinton was Prez he checked the polls before he made decisions?
No, leaders lead.
That is such ridiculous interpretation of what I wrote that it does not deserve a response.
And you're 180 degrees wrong about the isolationism as well.
You are batting zero.
