I love do gooders. They’re going to make the whole world just peachy. Nothing to worry about anymore.

Being a do gooder is about being a do gooder, not the results.

I wonder if these OLPC’s will get rid of all the oppressive, dictatorial, fascist governments in South America, Africa and the Middle East?

Computers but no cable or fiber optic Internet access?

That’s a pretty fancy Etch-a-Scetch.

Just another example of how the west tries to culturally dominate the rest of the world. </ lib speak>

A buddy brought one of the OLPCs by the office today.

Photobucket

Here it is sitting on top of an IBM T42.

Photobucket

I only had a couple of minutes to noodle around with it, but its icons are not the most easily-understood things I've encountered.

Photobucket

USB ports and other plug-in points are cleverly arranged. It has an SD-card reader that's inconveniently hidden on the bottom edge of the display. The only way to access it is by having the display twisted 'round half-way.

Photobucket

It's got stereo speakers, a webcam, an embedded microphone, what appear to be Playstation control buttons, and other toggle switches.

Photobucket

The dustproof/liquid resistant keyboard is more responsive than you might think, though I didn't have much opportunity to type on it.
