A Federal judge has dropped charges against a Lisbon man after his lawyer successfully argued that the marijuana authorities seized on his Keystone Road property was actually wild hemp.
52-year-old Patrick Green was arrested in August and accused of having nearly 900 marijuana plants and pot being prepared for sale in his barn on Keystone Road. Authorities said they were tipped off to Greens activities by parents of youths who may have been involved in the drug activities.
Greens lawyer Melissa Tuohey argued that the plants were hemp and not marijuana, and were growing in an area known to have wild hemp. She and a Private Investigator visited the site of the farm and found numerous areas where the plant was growing.
Additionally, a bust in 2003 that was credited as a massive seizure by authorities just 1 mile away from Greens farm is now believed to have been hemp growing wild. The Sheriff said at the time they believed it was marijuana, even though it was apparent there had been no one tending it and was growing at random. Tuohey said the area where that plot had been burned was now inhabited again by wild hemp.
According to the Watertown Daily Times this morning, Judge David Peebles dismissed the charges against Green in the interest of justice. Green had been released from Federal custody in October on his own recognizance after Tuohey presented her findings to the court.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- A 300-pound prostitute robbed a man of $100 before pedaling away on a blue bicycle, according to a police report.
The case of the hefty hooker happened about 1:10 a.m. Monday as the 32-year-old man rode his bicycle when the assailant came up to him.
"The female approached asking (the alleged victim) did he want a date, which meant she wanted him to pay for some sex," the report states.
The man told investigators he felt sorry for the woman and pulled $10 from his wallet to give to her. That's when she allegedly pushed him off his bicycle and wrestled him down. She snatched his wallet, stole $100 and then pedaled off.
The alleged victim, who wasn't injured, described his assailant as weighing 300 pounds and clad in blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
An officer searched the area but couldn't find the woman.
“Don’t tase me, bro!”
I think he’s got a bunch of photo huts around Wisconsin.
Yeah, I can picture a guy coming home, opening the box of camera film that he bought there, and saying, “Hmm, I guess all the leafy green stuff is used to pad it during shipping.”
