A box containing thousands of rare documents allegedly detailing the events surrounding the Black Sox scandal of the 1919 World Series will be up for auction starting tomorrow at a suburban Chicago auction house.
It is unclear exactly how the documents ended up together and where they have been over the past eight decades.
Mastro Auctions in Burr Ridge has declined to reveal the identity of the two sellers.
Baseball experts say the papers could offer more insights about 1 of the darkest events in baseball history.
The papers were examined by the Chicago Tribune.
They appear to contain documents from the 1921 criminal trial against White Sox players accused of throwing the 1919 World Series and a 1924 lawsuit in which some players sued the Chicago franchise for back pay.

Wait, your grandpa fixed a bath tub?
Perhaps even a double mint.
Why would the sellers use a small-time auction house? That will raise some doubt as to the authenticity of the docs.
I wonder if it was offered to major auctioneers in the Chicago area (i.e., L. Hindman Auctioneers) and rejected? BYW, L. Hindman has handled items from the Comiskey family, including selling actual pieces of Comiskey Park when it was dismantled — would that have been a natural choice?
Maybe there’s a provenance problem. I have no idea though.
We also had the ORIGINAL contracts of Chick Gandil and the pitcher (don’t remember his name). It sold at auction for $35,000.
NICE!
So you're saying this fellow's grandfather was a money-launderer?
Just thought I would unwrap and stick in this comment: Gum up the works? No, but at the least that pun was a bit of a stretch. Since Wrigley is the home of the Cubs, such propositions are simply mental mastication. No matter. When threads like this come along the punsters all bubble to the surface and pop in to leave a comment. Well, they can pack into this thread all they want. It will not change the fact that even after all these years this baseball championship scandal was series. (I know I was stuned)
That’s a lot to swallow!
