Goodbye FR [Mods respond: don't let the door hit your arse on the way out]

Posted on 11/14/2007 2:51:00 PM PST by HHKrepublican_2

I will be leaving FR. I will no longer post here and likely will no longer check the news here either. I began to post here a few years ago with updates on my attempts and eventual success at founding teenage republican clubs across New Jersey and the surrounding area. I used to run a ping list about the invasion of Islam into Europe. I ran an FR-based operation to try to change public opinion about the Iraq war using letters to the editor and "stats" e-mails. It seems however that as soon as I began to indicate that I was supporting Mr. Giuliani for the Presidency all of that was instantly forgotten and I was branded many of the things I'm sure are crossing many people's minds as they read this. I'm leaving before I get kicked off for my own opinions, I'm not a left-winger who comes to attack the website, I'm a conservative that comes to share my opinions, and if this is a place where certain opinions are muted out because some disagree then good-bye. I always thought it was the Democrats who believed that if you silenced people who disagreed with you, what you were saying became true. What a fool I must be.

The site has lost a lot of good people and retained most of the jerks.

I’m voting for Giuliani, and I’m staying a proud freeper.

An organization where everyone agrees with everyone about everything is an organization that can meet in a phone booth with enough seating for all.

Whether some of you like it or not this young man has a valid point.

I still come here to check the news, but this site carries much less weight with me than when I discovered it in 2000.

The person who made the comment above for this young man to stay away personifies way to many here in my opinion.

I’ll stay and fight the good fight. I am leaning to the “US Mayor” but I am not committed to him. I believe that anyone here who has read my postings have seen me asking for positive postings to convince me about their choice and not to denigrate someone’s choice to make their choice look better. That is a democrat trick to beat someone down to make yourself look bigger.

I have also asked for logical arguments based on facts and history why their candidate is the better choice. I have had a few responses that meet these guidelines and relished an intelligent; not an emotional argument. Unfortunately, the emotional responses far out weigh the logical in number, but not in sound logic.

I would encourage you to stay, perhaps as a lurker. The debate will evolve as the political landscape evolves. If for nothing else, you may learn some things and see some changes. Since you are from NJ, I’m sure you were affected by 9/11. I live on the Bay Shore and lost loved ones on that day. I see the Towers of light” from the beach every year.

I can understand your angst on how certain things go here on FR. I too have been roundly attacked from time to time here for my opinions and beliefs. While I do not support Gulliani in the Primaries as I see him as not conservative enough on social issues, I can see how some view him as a viable candidate to oppose Hitlery. If you do go, then, IMHO, you’ve allowed these people to beat you, and they have won. FR will be lessened by your departure. It’s hard to take a stand, and stay the course, but these times call for just that. I hope to see you still around when all the smoke clears next November.

But there has to come a moment on FR when people realize that Rudy may be the nominee and we will be left with the choice of Rudy or Hillary.

That’s like choosing between a boot in the teeth or a dagger in the crotch.

It's understandable you'd think this way, but the time has come to make a stand for conservative canidates. People who will govern mightly with conservative principles. The republican party is infested with moderate rino's which has done nothing but cause a loss of power, power that is needed more than ever in these times. Why should anyone who is conservative support a canidate which is moderate and would legislate moderately?

If you believe that strongly in Mr. Guliani then fight for him and his principles here, but do not think for a second people are not going to point out his moderate/rino flaws along with the likeminded people who would support such an agenda that ultimately gives power over to the DBM/dems.

Sorry to hear its gotten so bad your having to leave but I think you should stay and stick out. In a year you won’t have these arguments as everyone will hopefully be rallied around the GOP candidate and the whole primary candidates long forgotten.

Yes some would be hypocrites but sadly its life and we must deal with it every day in order to get to the greater things of life.

Thanks for being involved in such a noble cause. We need as many young republicans on our side as we can get.

It's one year before a presidential election and things always gets a little crazy around here. Some of it gets pretty heated (to put it lightly) at times but you just have to roll with the punches and keep your wits about yourself.

The best thing is to just take a few days or weeks off of FR and you'll come back with a fresher outlook. I've gone on hiatuses from FR and it does me good. Try that first before leaving altogether.

That said, I don't think you should go, but best wishes to you in your future endeavors.

Ah, toughen up Buckeroo, you’ve proven your worth. It is always like this here when there is a controversial issue. Remember Terri Schiavo and immigration? Take a breather and come back later. Thanks again for your efforts and Godspeed in your endeavors...

"...I'm a conservative...."

Give me a break. A real conservative would never support a LIBERAL like Giuliani.

Bye, bye,,,,and ditto on the 'door thing'!!!

Mixed feelings. But the bottom line is that this is not Hyde Park Corner; this is Jim Robinson’s website-that-just-happens-to-have-become-A-Big-Deal. If you believe that he and his mods allow rule-breaking selectively against Giuliani supporters, at such bothers you sufficiently, then, sure, you may not want to stick around.

Put differently: Imagine if this were a TINY little website/blog. Surely you wouldn’t begrudge the writer/owner of such a site the “right” to show some favoritism, because it’s HIS pulpit. IMO it is no different, in principle, when the site gets popular and big.

I will say that I would sooner vote for Giuliani in the general, if it comes down to that, than risk a repeat of 1912, 1992 or 1996. If I get abuse here for saying “better (or ‘less bad’?) a Rudy than a Hillary,” I’ll figure out what to do at that time. Meanwhile, I have several GOP folks I’d prefer over Rudy and hope to get one of THEM the nomination instead.

Why Guillani supporters have been purged in the past and Ron Paul supporters have been allowed to stay, I will never understand. That being said I have enjoyed your posts and wish you would reconsider. It not, good luck. BTW, Rudy is not my choice but if he does get the nomination, I will vote for him to stop Hillary.

Our Fallback position has to be:

ANYBODY BUT HILLARY

Now is the time for civil debate on the republican nominee we each prefer but when we get to the general election any republican and most democrats are preferable to having the Borg Queen in the White House.

If we start acting like democrats we will face the fate of the 2004 Republican congress.

>By the way, what’s the plural of ‘opus’? Opi?

Ah, see you have fallen afoul of Latin declensions.

Opus, ending in “us” forms another subset of the third declensi - In English, therefore, the plural of opus is opera. - or opuses.

I’ve thought about it too. You are not alone in your assessments. If one doesn’t support Fred Thompson as the anointed GOP’er, than one is kicked, banned, threads pulled etc. There have been several Mitt supporters banned within the last day for posting Fred statements that don’t mesh with the ideals here on FR. I love Fred and will fight for him to the end it it comes down to it, but I like Mitt more, he has better leadership qualities, and can bring conservatives and moderates back to the party. He did it in Mass, and he is best situated to do it on the national stage.

But... for that reason I have to walk on eggshells here as of late.

FR is a wonderful place and tool for like conservatives to discuss the issues of the day, and for that, I thank Jim Robinson a great deal... but it’s becoming less free it seems. Type fredrepublic.com and see where you are redirected and who this site is ultimately for.

Again, Fred is my second choice, and I hope he is the pick if Mitt is not. He would make a fabulous VP as well.

Jim, I hope I am not banned for responding to this the way I did, but I think it needs to be said. Again, your efforts are appreciated.

Good luck to you, and thanks for your service. I do hope you return to FR.

Important rules to remember. Grow a very, very, very thick skin. Without one you will not survive. The enemy of my enemy is simply a temporary ally. Mother's in law are mortal enemies, not members of the family. You can't choose your enemies or relatives. On the other hand, only friends can stab you in the back.

Remember Machiaveli's dictum and golden rule. "You cannot deal with people as you wish them to be. You must deal with them as they really are.
