"South Park" drops names, takes jabs
Denver Post ^ | 11-11-07 | Bill Husted

Kyle and Stan of "South Park" are living large with Colorado celebrities.

In an episode that debuted last week, the boys break 100,000 points on "Guitar Hero" and become the toast of the town at a swank Denver pool party.

"Dude, dude," says Stan. "That's Ron Zappolo from Channel 4 News!"

"Wow," says Kyle. "Look over there. It's that Jake Jabs guy ..."

In the kicking-a-guy-when-he's- (almost)-down department, there was this: "Dude, dude, that's Jay Cutler over there," says Stan.

Cutler is laid out on a lawn chair, holding a beer, a woman standing on each side.

"Nice to meet you," says Stan to Jay. "I mean, you kinda suck, but my dad says you might be good someday."

I was surprised to see Tom “Now You Have a Friend in the Diamond Business” Shane as a Colorado celebrity. I’ve been hearing his radio ads in Atlanta for years, in which he presents the Shane Co. as a small, local business with only a couple of locations. I totally bought it, thinking Tom Shane could actually be found behind the counter somewhere in the Atlanta area. After seeing him on SP, I looked him up and found out the the Shane Co. was the largest privately owned jeweler in the US with stores nationwide. I no longer feel like I have a friend in the diamond business... :-(

That episode, while it had its moments, was without question the lamest of the season.

My Son-in-Law is a bassist and huge Guitar Hero fanatic. My wonderful Daughter studied piano and flute so she isn't so much so, but the two of them can sit on the sofa for hours playing that game.

I thought the show was at least one of the best. I had to call them to watch it. They thought it was hilarious. Especially the ringer kid that played acoustic and Tom Shane being at the drugs and sex party.

Shaneco.com does make a good product though. My wife's 30th anniversary ring always gets noticed.
