NEW YORK - Her trip to Rwanda has been postponed, but Paris Hilton is still determined to use her celebrity status for good causes.
"I want to travel the world," the 26-year-old socialite says in an interview posted on the Web site of the syndicated entertainment TV show "Extra." "I feel like there's a lot I can do, and a lot I can do to help."
The Playing for Good Foundation announced last week that Hilton's philanthropic trip to Rwanda has been postponed due to restructuring of the children's charity. On her itinerary: visits to schools and health-care clinics.
Hilton told "Extra" she will now pack her bags for the African country sometime next year.
"We were supposed to be going in November, but then the charity is doing restructuring and figuring things out. It's going to be for next year," she said. "I know (Rwanda) went through a lot of traumatic experiences, and I feel like if I go there, I can help save some people's lives."
Hilton announced the mission in September, several months after serving a 23-day jail sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
"I want kids to know, even if you're 15 or 16 years old, you can do something," she said in the interview.
And you are free to use it. But you can’t use it to make a profit.
I’m impressed. She appears to be wearing panties.
It will be a night in Rawanda.
I saw Paris Hilton and “head” and was gonna comment but thought better.
Might wanna warn the Rawandans what they could catch, though.
You all chastise her when she parties too much and now you chastise her for *trying* to do some good.
(although I have a sneaking suspicion she is trying to follow Angelina)
If she is truly trying then give credit where its due. How many of you all partied when you were young?
Hopefully she is at least partially sincere and has grown up.
“Shed fit in better in Ethiopia, methinks.”
Why, she’s neither Coptic Christian nor a Muslim...
Besides, it is mainly the tribes outside the main cities that starved to death as they refused to moved...
Uh, yeah....
What good will possibly come of her visit? Many celebrities visit poor countries, and guess what? Even when they leave, those countries are still poor! Of course, the celebrity in question gets all sorts of credit for "trying" to fix a situation that cannot be fixed from without, but only from within.
The Rwandan people have suffered horribly in the past 10 years. For Paris Hilton to use them as props to bolster he own image is shameful. Hopefully, the Rwandan government will deny her a visa or do something else to ban her from coming to their country.
Said Paris: “Well hell, if they won’t let have my own kids, I’ll just do what everyone else does and go to Africa and get some.”
>>hope she can get in. BTW, thats her parents house shes trying to get in. Post jail, and drunk.<<
She’s nimble little thing, isn’t she?
I sure did but I never:
a) went out without underwear
b) caught an incurable venereal disease
c) was arrested
d) skipped out on a court date
e) went to prison
f) cried out "Mommy, Mommy" in public after the age of about 8 or 9.
Truth hurts though.
Maybe the First Laddy can use a co-Ambassador-to-the-world? What do you think Hillary?
Danr it I read your comment as I answered the phone here at work and snickerd at the unsuspecting caller.
“Paris Hilton to head to Rwanda next year”
