FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. -- A father wants investigators to pursue fraud and larceny charges against a Panhandle strip club after his son ran up a $53,000 bill in a single night while celebrating his college graduation.

Joe Salter, 52, of Mary Esther, told investigators Club 10 employees took advantage of his 24-year-old son, Tommy. The younger Salter was at the club Aug. 18 to celebrate his graduation from Georgia Tech.

Wrong, AMEX denied the Father’s request and said they owed it.

The biggest stone here of coarse is the heavy C-card bill.

Can you imagine havin to think about that evening everytime you send in the minimum payment per month for the next twenty years.

Hey, nobody deserves that....I kinda feel for the guy.

Ya go to a T & A night on the town, oogle at a bunch of hot gals, have a few stiff drinks then get your lil wee wee smacked by a scam.

Ouch!

having bartended for the last 11 years, i’ve learned that one the hard way. a customer can give you a set amount they are willing to spend, and you need to assume that is every penny they have. if you go over it, you’re gonna have a heck of a time getting the money from them. even taking them to court, you’ll be lucky if you break even after paying all associated costs.

You have a point there, but the fact that they called in the police tells me they’re serious. A garden-variety attempt to evade responsibility would more likely involve suing someone, which they’re not doing. I’d say let the cops do their job and the truth will come out one way or another.

he’s alleging that he didn’t sign for the charges.

No, his daddy is alleging he didn't sign for the charges.

I can see it now - "Dad, you would have been so proud. I signed the first one with my right hand, the rest I signed with my left hand. We can get all that grad party money back!"

Now, I'm not saying that happened, but if I can imagine it..............

Then again I could be completely wrong.

On the other hand, in this day and age, when identity theft is rampant, I wouldn't let ANYBODY keep my credit card out of my sight.

"Run a tab. I'll check it and sign for it at the end of the night"

I seriously doubt that was done. Strip clubs make a ton of money, to risk the monthly ‘take’ for a momentary, one night gain makes no sense from a financial standpoint.
ARE YOU FROM FLORIDA? Then shudup about FL strip bars!

(chuckle)

...uh yeah, there’s a responsibility issue here. if a customer tells you “i only have xxx to spend” you make sure that they’re cut off the minute they hit it. everything they order after that, demand cash up front.

I'll take your word for it inasmuch as I've never run one of these businesses, but my legal spider sense tells me that one might not stand up in court. What the heck, I'm not a lawyer either.

I think Dad threw a temper tantrum, and thats whats at the heart of this particular incident, including the cops being called.

Most don’t realize these clubs have full time 24/7 video recorders going on the the booths and tables, if for no other reason than to defend themselves against allegations they are running a brothel, performing sex acts, that sort of thing.

The tapes will demonstrate who was a willing participant/customer, and who is lying. They always do.

Even thought AMEX has no preset spending limits exactly what AMEX did this kid have, The Gold, Platinum or Black?
Also this account must have a history have high balances otherwise why would AMEX approve the purchases?
Lot of questions unanswered but the fact is AMEX let those charges go through and even though Dad complained they still said the Bill was owed. So AMEX sees no problem.
Now can Daddy pay the Tab with AMEX.

Probably wouldn’t, but as he pointed out the time and expense of a court case mean it’s not worthwhile.

Yeah, that much money would certainly motivate you to come up with an excuse to get out of trouble, if you were the type inclined to make up such excuses.

Not exactly. It really varies, some are run by honest saloonkeepers and others are run by crooks.

Blood loss and alchol, a bad combination.

Probably enjoying being the life of the party and had no clue how much his “friends” were drinking up on the tab.

As a very ‘green, albeit salty’ 18 year old in TiJuana BC, it only took one time to find out that behind the curtain 5 min wasn't always 5 minutes...especially the FIRST trip back there....just another life's lesson to be learned by doing a little stint in the military....

But his dad, 52-year-old Joe Salter of Mary Esther, was shocked by the $53,000 charge that ended up on a joint American Express credit card account he shares with his son.

Awe, c'mon. They don't share a darn thing. Daddy had Amex issue the kid a card on daddy's account. And that's what the kid racked up $53K on.

Don’t agree. This is clip joint 101. Get a mark drunk, and run up a huge tab, probably padded with phoney tickets.
