I've seen this multiple times; talked about it myself.

Linux is much more popular worldwide than it is in the US/north america.

Just ask Netapplications, then ask W3counter. One tracks the US, and one tracks the world.

I don’t know about the world market, but I think the PC market in the US is driven by games. If “Bioshock” can run on a Linux platform, then the Linux userbase will expand. If it doesn’t, the Vista userbase will expand.

I’m a Linux know-nothing. I switched over from XP. Then I showed my brother Kubuntu. Even he switched over. XP is a thing of the past for both of us. [Neither of us games.]

I run Mepis 6.5 on my work laptop, and on one desktop at home. The other two desktops at home run windows 2000.

Yahbut that survey is oriented to corporate users. Corporate-issue machines are Windows, no matter which timezone you're in (and we're in all of them, I'm told).

But I'm posting this from my personal Kubuntu machine at home.

Gone to Apples every one. Just my guess. Americans do not think first of cost when buying something.

I’m still in the MS world, but if I wanted an alternative, it would probably be a Mac.

I can’t run my flight sims on Linux. If I could fly IL-2 on anything other than Windows I’d be gone in a heartbeat.
