Big crowds turned out at Apple Stores from coast to coast Friday to mark the release of Mac OS X 10.5, the OS X update known as Leopard. In New Yorks SoHo neighborhood, even pouring rain and gusty winds didnt deter early adopters from queuing up. The sidewalk in front of the store and around the corner was a sea of colored umbrellas as about 200 people lined up to be among the first to purchase Leopard in North America. Those who hadnt prepared for the weather hunched under pieces of cardboard or just got wet, as people bustled past on busy Prince Street and wondered aloud what all the fuss was about.
A similar scene unfolded at the CambridgeSide Galleria Apple Store in Cambridge, Mass.minus the rainwhere the line, divided into three or four sections, stretched from in front of the Apple Store, all the way out the door of the mall and across the street. Security guards and even local police kept order while devoted users waited for Apple to open the doors, and Apple retail employees offered queuers bottles of water and encouragement.
Boston electrical engineer Colin Dickerson was the first in line in Cambridge, having arrived at around 2:45 p.m. after working a twelve-hour shift the previous day. Its become a tradition, Dickerson said, I got the iPhone the day after release. Im going to go home and stay up late learning all the features. In particular, he was looking forward to using the new Time Machine backup feature, though he said that upgrading to Leopard more about all the features put together. Unlike Windows.

Time Machine backup feature? hmmmm.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Mac folks should feel so jealous, you get updates only ever so often (Microsoft users get many, many each year showing the love Microsoft has for its users). Not to mention the love that Microsoft has for its users via its monthly security updates and the many daily updates. Mac users should be up in arms about the lack of consideration. /s
So far, so good. Cover flow, which was a gimmick in iTunes is now an incredibly valuable piece of functionality in the finder. Amazing.
Spaces is a great idea. I guess an extension of Expose.
On the other hand I will be up for a while trying to get my printers to connect. Not good.
Cover Flow isn’t a gimmick if you have a large amount of music. It’s much easier to pick an album out of a scrolling list of cover art images than it is to scroll through a text list.
I think you still have to connect them by hand.

Time Machine backup feature? hmmmm.
You forgot to mention all the love in the form of seven (or however many) different itterations of the operating system...
Microsoft has so many free updates because they are fixing a broken OS that is full of security holes and stuffed with bloat. Why does Vista run games slower than Windows XP? It’s time for Apple to make a bold move and include a PC operating system in its product line. Throw another hammer into the sleeping masses. It’s the next logical move since they are now using Intel processors in the new iMACs. Microsoft would use some competition.
