Call me slow, call me dense, but I've watched this season of "John From Cincinnati," and the entire mini-series, "Damages" on FX. I'm confused as heck.
Who else has seen these?
Ok, it's clear "John" is somehow a "type" of Jesus Christ (JC); that he has strange healing powers and miracle powers. But what was with the rant about "my father's camera?" I completely missed the symbolism of the camera.
Also, who are these Hawaiian hit men, and what do they want?
Finally, on "Damages," was the baby Glenn Close lost Frobisher's? If so, why didn't HE know they had sex?
I didn’t watch either. I was too busy watching AMC’s brilliant series “Mad Men” instead.
That about the baby’s grave bothered me, too.
It never seemed to have gotten connected to the rest of the story.
I was watching Survivor China in hopes that one or two of the contestants would die from O3 poisoning.
I stopped trying to figure out JFC and looked at it as entertainment/art series that I do not think we are ever supposed to figure out...Yet, I could not help but watch it even when I found some of the characters annoying.......
I started out watching Damages and was impressed with the series.I stopped watching it but was caught up on everything last weekend during the marathon and caught the final episode Sunday....
I never thought about the baby connection but you might be right....I have a feeling Frobisher did the wild thing with so many women he may not remember his encounter with Patty.
I haven’t watched it. But “my father’s camera” made me think of the California mystic Alan Watts. Watts said—and I paraphrase—that God looked at and appreciated his creation through the eyes and minds of people.
Never watched it.
Have absolutely no clue.
Why? Because I stopped watching new “tv shows” long ago.Nothing is new, everything is a copy of a copy of a copy...
NFL Network, FoxNews, umm what else... not much, spend more time reading on the net now more than ever.
A shame for you. Ever since The Sopranos came out, TV writing has actually become very creative and entertaining.
I think the baby’s grave had to do with Her attempt (Glen Close’s)to kill the young Lawyer that she hired to get close to the case and Her guilt in dealing with it (Damages)
(John From Cin) That whole show used the same writers and actors from Deadwood and it was just screwy made no sense to me at all but I did like Deadwood. (Hollywood’s attempt to explain religion?)
It’s simple. Patty THOUGHT she had just comitted murder on girl lawyer, whom she regarded as some kind of daughter.
This brings on thoughts about the one who DID die in the past.
It’s double remorse—hence that crying jag in the chair.
Years BEFORE the big “cut the cord” thing hit the streets, I had already walked away from the tube.
That was 1990. I’ve ZERO regret.
Rediscover reality, and save money doing it; cut the cable.
Trust me; it’s the best $40/month you’ll ever quit wasting.
Except if you like The Discovery Channel, The History Channel and The Military Channel.
Television has its place and, curiously, it’s returning (somewhat) to the great “educational tool” that was envisioned in the 1950s.
Even the “mindless” documentaries like “How It’s Made” and “Dirty Jobs” are redeeming.
That’s my take on that scene as well. Patty was starting to see Ellen as the daughter that she always wanted(and had lost years before), her progeny of sorts, but she had just ordered her murder and felt incredibly guilty.
“A shame for you. Ever since The Sopranos came out, TV writing has actually become very creative and entertaining.”
You must be young. Most plots on TV I can relate back to radio programs I heard pre-TV, and many, if not all of the radio programs themselves were derivatives of plots from literary works. Some details change, such as more graphic realism, but the basic stories and character motivations are all the same.
Intersting take on Damagages. I feel like a moron when I watch some of these shows cause I don’t get it!! I liked Deadwood altho it was very confusing when they went to the old english when of talking then I felt like a moron again!! When are they going to have the final 2 hr show or movie? Cincinnati very confusing and acting sucks!
So how many hours of your life you’ll never get back went into this series?
Mike Rowe is awesome.
It does have religious overtones, but what gets me is the unexpected twists and turns the plot takes.
It’s different from what I usually watch.Big time.
dont think theres gonna be a next scene. I was told the show is cancelled...
