Speaking of teeth - anybody else here have a dentist ‘phobia’? I had to go yesterday - and thought I would have a heart attack before I got outta there.

Someone posted last week that they had an infection in one of their teeth they didn’t know was so bad - they went to the dentist, and ended up in the hospital in ICU, with IV’s, and morphine. Guess it was close to the optic nerve and would have killed him, if it had gone any further.

Yes, I have dentist phobia.
But I have found a dentist who isn’t an information extraction specialist in their off hours.

I had a dentist breathe heavy while drilling repeatedly into several nerves, all while tellingme “you think that huirts, imagine what it would be like without novocaine.”
(She obviously had a thing for infliciting lots of pain.)

Well, years down the road, I find I need lots of work.
Expensive work.

Yowch.

So I looked over several dentists, and found one who said, “Hey, umm.. that shouldn’t be painful. We’re supposed to do pain management while fixing your teeth.”
He’s darn good at not causing me pain.

My wife, however, seems to react to novocaine.
She had a filling done on Wednesday, and the novocaine caused pain.

Mo merely helped me along with the kneecaps.
(I’m still sorry about the typos! Honest!)

Wow! There’s a name for people like that dentist that ‘like to cause pain’. What a horrible experience.

My nightmare started when the dentist said ‘oops!’ as the drill slipped and went all the way through my cheek.

My nightmare was due to my family having been on welfare at the time, and aforementioned butcher being the only local dentist who’d take welfare patients.
Her, unqualified and non-licensed, husband acted as her assistant.
She got sick and canceled an appointment on me then turned around and while causing me pain, berated me for ‘missing’ the appointment.

So when I found my current dentist, I was extremely relieved.

I think dentist charges are way out of line, these days.

One of my best friends had some work done recently, and the dentist charged her $10,000! (And, he says he isn’t done, yet!)

Most dental insurance is out of reach for most of us - and then they only cover minimal proceedures. It’s amazing American’s teeth don’t look like those of the English.

I forgot to add: This was in New York State as well.

I’m paying most of this out of pocket.
My insurance will only cover $754 worth of work.
One can nail most of that off in one sitting with only four fillings.
(roughly $628 worth of fillings is four fillings.)

I needed lots of fillings.
We’re going with the new epoxy resin type, tougher, and don’t expand in heat which would crack teeth.

Well, you are lucky to have insurance.

That is just over $150/filling. That sounds reasonable. I think the dentist here charges $500/filling (or more.)

I have pretty much decided to go to the city, and get knocked out, while the dentist does the work. Wake up , and ‘poof’. It’s all done. (I haven’t had the consultation, so don’t know what it will cost.)

The hard part is next: post and crown.
I’ll need three.
And that’s at 2K a pop.
That will be the longest part of this.
(I had really bad teeth.)

The fillings were all replacements of amalgams and improperly done ‘cosmetic’ fillings.
(The previous generation of the epoxy resin fillings were called ‘cosmetic’ fillings in the early 90’s for some stupid reason. Just call ‘em what they are for crying out loud!)

Nully reminded me that one has to be alive to feel pain.
Since that hasn’t likely been a problem for awhile..

By the way, anyone know anybody that is suffering from Bunny on the Head?

A horrible disease where the main symptom of infection is having a rabbit sitting on your head.
Usually suffered by those who have rabbits.

(Much like “Cat butt in your face” is an affliction of cat owners.)
