Patriots at Colts has a powerful, compelling narrative. Namely -- Good vs. Evil.
Argument for the Indianapolis Colts as paladins who carry the banner of that which is beneficent: Sportsmanship, honesty, modesty, devotion to community, embrace of traditional small-town life, belief in higher power, even love of laughter.
Argument for the New England Patriots as scoundrels in the service of that which is baleful: Dishonesty, cheating, arrogance, hubris, endless complaining even in success. The Patriots have three Super Bowl rings, but that jewelry is tarnished by their cheating scandal. They run up the score to humiliate opponents -- more on that below -- thus mocking sportsmanship. Their coach snaps and snarls in public, seeming to feel contempt for the American public that has brought him wealth and celebrity.
The team's star, Tom Brady, is a smirking sybarite who dates actresses and supermodels but whose public charity appearances are infrequent. That constant smirk on Brady's face reminds one of Dick Cheney; people who smirk are fairly broadcasting the message, "I'm hiding something."

All you hear down here in Texas is the strength of Marion “the Barbarian”. Cowboys always “claim” to be a running team. He runs good against middle tier teams.
You need to go back and watch films of Watson he is an all around TE like Gonzales not just a receiver, but he drops very few if any when thrown to.
Evidently their 6’5” safety did them no good as they lost handily.
Good luck with that dream of Colts winning.
The Pats did bring in the 2nd string guy who promptly gave 7 back to the Dolphins. If the Fins would roll over then then the Pats could have rust handed off the rest of the game.
With any luck we'll see a rematch in the Super Bowl. However, if the Colts beat the Pats soon and then again in the playoffs how does this help your Cowboys?
Wow, this Buttmunch has over 3700 comments ripping him apart.
Funny thing is Casteel is better then most teams’ starter.
No, because he's a) handing the ball off, and b) 2 scores within 4 minutes is still a very surmountable lead.
If he was up by three or more scores and passing half the time or more, then yes, that would be running up the score.
He wasn’t handing off in the Jax game.
On a side note, I find it poor judgment to leave any starting QB in the game in the 4th once it is obvious the game is settled. One of my pet peeves, they talk about how priceless they are but keep on playing them.
Well isn't that nice, the Colts players don't carp about playing in a non-glamorous Farm Belt city like Indianapolis. This delusional S.O.B. thinks this is a compliment. As for the antiquated stadium they are forced to play in, the players should take it up with the cheap bastard that owns the Colts. The owner, no doubt, expects the tax payers to build him a state of the art facility.
Of the Colts' last 12 offensive plays, there were 3 passes (all on 3rd down and greater than 3 yards to go), and 9 runs:
Indianapolis Colts at 10:48 1-10-IND 21 (10:48) 29-J.Addai up the middle to IND 32 for 11 yards (66-D.Landri). 1-10-IND 32 (10:01) 29-J.Addai right end to IND 34 for 2 yards (99-M.Stroud). 2-8-IND 34 (9:17) 29-J.Addai left end to IND 35 for 1 yard (29-B.Williams). 3-7-IND 35 (8:32) (Shotgun) 18-P.Manning pass deep middle to 87-R.Wayne to JAC 48 for 17 yards (25-R.Nelson). 1-10-JAC 48 (7:46) 36-K.Keith up the middle to JAC 47 for 1 yard (97-R.Hayward). 2-9-JAC 47 (7:02) 36-K.Keith right tackle to JAC 45 for 2 yards (66-D.Landri, 52-D.Smith). 3-7-JAC 45 (6:16) (Shotgun) 18-P.Manning pass short left intended for 86-B.Utecht INTERCEPTED by 29-B.Williams (92-R.Meier) at JAC 38. 29-B.Williams to JAC 42 for 4 yards (86-B.Utecht). Indianapolis Colts at 00:36 1-10-IND 19 (:36) 18-P.Manning kneels to IND 18 for -1 yards.
Re: Be Watson: I'm very familiar with his work and I think he's a pretty good TE, just not spectacular. Witten is ranked #1 in his conference at the position; Watson is #8 in his. And Witten's value to his team is much greater than Watson's to the Pats.
Just had to get a dig in against the the Bush administration, in a sports article, no less, insinuating that the Bush administration is evil, like the Patriots.
You have about 10 days until it happens on 11/4.
In theory you could do some analysis of the tape while your defense is on the field (since you’re only filming defensive calls, offensive calls go over the radio), then of course there’s the half time break. The real benefit, if there is one at all, would be in the rematch. The big goal is to be able to figure out from their signal if they’re going to blitz, whether or not the defense is blitzing is probably the single most important piece of information that exists, #2 would be where the blitz is coming from (strong side, weak side, middle) because that’s where you want your hot read to go.
All that being said I think this whole thing is a bi-product of the way the NFL has become obsessed with over planning and secrets. These days it’s all about gigantic playbooks and complex schemes. Lombardi used to install about 2 dozen plays a game plus some audibled variations, he believed that you could tell the other team exactly what you were going to do and if you executed properly it wouldn’t matter.
The problem with your analysis is that Moss (6’4”) has a height advantage on every defensive back the Colts bring to the party. The only DB over 6’ on their roster is a rookie (6’1”).
Double team him all you want, when Moss goes up for the ball, Indy doesn’t appear to have anyone who can get up there with him. Sanders gives up 8 inches to Moss.
Of course point differential is a tie-breaker in the NFL, way down the list but it’s there. So to a certain degree there is no such thing as running up the score. If the Pats-Colts game ends in a tie (just go with me on this) and neither team loses any games guess which of the two gets homefield throughout, the one with the largest point differential.
Or there’s always the Mike Ditka reasoning, given again during the pre-game show Monday: if don’t want people running up the score on you play better football.
When the first team is in and passing, rather than running out the clock, most people would call that “running up the score”.
_____________
There is no such thing as running up the score in a league in which point differential is still used as a tie breaker for getting into the playoffs. The NFL is one of those leagues.
If the D can’t stop the O, the O is going to score. And under no circumstances is that the O’s fault.
27 seconds after you.
great or sick minds thinking alike? I have my theory.
Oh, come on... used as a tiebreaker? The rest of the Pats’ division is a combined 3-17, and two of those wins were against each other (1-12 in non-division games). They’re going to clinch the division by week 11 or 12.
The only tiebreaker that could possibly matter to the Pats this year is the head-to-head matchup against the Colts, and that’s strictly on win/lose.
It's a career move. Attacking Republicans at Disney is never going to hurt you, and will likely get you noticed in a positive way. Ask the loathsome Keith Olbermann.
And sicker still I was probably looking at your post thinking “wow 27 seconds” while you were writing this. Queue the Twilight Zone music ;)
