BANGKOK, Thailand — American magician David Copperfield has canceled his upcoming shows in Southeast Asia following allegations of sexual misconduct in the United States, a Thai organizer said Monday.

"His management sent an e-mail to organizers Sunday to inform that his shows will be postponed indefinitely," said Kittiyong Achawaphong, a public relations official of RSi Dream Entertainment, which organized his shows in Thailand.

Copperfield was scheduled to perform in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand in coming weeks. The cancellations come days after FBI agents searched his warehouse and a casino hotel in Las Vegas, where the magician regularly performs, following charges that he "forced himself" on an unidentified woman.

Can any prison hold Copperfield?

I can hear it now...."Warden, there's an elephant in my soup!"

If not then I don't think she has a chance

Unless the police are able to uncover some evidence in everything they've confiscated from Copperfield, her case doesn't stand a chance. Unfortunately, it won't matter if he is innocent, as he will be marked for life.

What was the deal with the story about the FBI seizing $2MM in cash from his warehouse? What does that have to do with a charge of rape?

Of course, the DNA results don’t have any relevance to those situations where it is agreed a sexual encounter took place, and the only issue is whether the encounter was consensual or forced. Any of these where the rape accusation was false would raise your percentages.

Unfortunately, in these cases the truth is generally known only to the “rapist,” the “victim” and God.

Have you read that he has another case involving another woman and similar allegations?

I haven’t been following this closely, but I was thinking that was something I had read in another article about him and this accusation...maybe posted here at FR.

How are they going to hold him in jail? He can pull a Houdini on the jailer and walk away.

I didn't state that I believed nor did I imply he did it or didn't do it.

See post #2 with your comment, all I did was ask you the opposite of what you asked.

The guy dated Claudia Schiffer. He's not bad looking and successful. I'd think he'd have trouble keeping the women away - not having to rape one to get some. (I'll leave it to the FRguys to go find a Claudia picture...)

But I suppose it could happen. Good looking, successful guys have been known to do stupid things.

Yes, unfortunate both for victims of rape who fail to prove their case because the jury thinks it is consensual and unfortunate for the victims of false accusations of rape (regardless of whether they are convicted or not). It is very unfortunate. The old Hebrew law making it hard to prove rape but then executing the rapist makes more sense in this light.

True enough.

BTW, under the Law of Moses, someone who made a false accusation was supposed to suffer the same penalty she would have inflicted on the other person. So I guess in this case a false accusation of rape would result in capital punishment.

Men who can’t keep it in their pants are taking an enormous risk every time. Their life will be ruined, as you say, simply by an accusation of rape and the resultant publicity. This is even more true of rich men, who are obvious targets for extortion.

I agree. But look at the Duke lacrosse case. Nothing was done to the false accuser (who boasted she would make money from some white guys). Nothing! A green light to make false accusations.

What irritates me no end are those claiming, "Oh, Copperfield doesn't need to rape anyone, he can get women." In rape the main motive is not sex.

Now reports say Copperfield had this weird way of picking up women from his shows. Does not look good for him.

imho, he is more of a nerd than a rapist.
