Cat-napper steals neighbours' pets as punishment for straying into garden

Police are hunting a cat-napper who has taunted owners with a letter claiming their pets have been "relocated."

In the letter the abductor says their pets have been dumped at least 25 miles away as punishment for "invading" his garden.

So far seven cats have vanished from the same road in Southampton, Hants. The author taunted owners saying: "They have not been harmed, just re-located. You have virtually no chance of getting them back.

"If you were lucky enough to get your cat back... the second time they get caught in my garden, they will be destroyed."

Shocked residents, who had launched a plea for the safe return of the missing cats, have branded the author "sick and cruel".

Ellie Catto, 30, who lost both her beloved cats, said: "If somebody has taken and dumped them as far as I'm concerned that's theft and cruelty to animals.

"They will be confused and hungry. It makes me really angry. My children are missing their pets and very upset."

Another resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "It's disgraceful. I'm absolutely appalled." She feared her cat, which was without its kidney tablets, was now dead.

The woman added: "It's cruel and slightly sick. It will be heartbreaking for the children across the road.

"This behaviour is quite threatening and rather frightening. Is somebody wandering around watching our cats?"

Cats started to go missing at an alarming rate in Bramley Crescent, in the Sholing area of Southampton.

Some feared they have been taken away by yobs and used as target practice while others thought they may have been stolen for their fur.

The RSPCA and the Blue Cross animal welfare charity were notified and fliers put up.

The cat-napper's letter gave a couple of clues. "I have lived in the area for many years with my family," it read.

And it said the cats were caught in one garden and taken away by a 'lorry driver friend'.

Yob or fur, yob or fur...

I believe we have the makings of a Broadway musical!

I think the blonde (2nd from right) is the author. No reason, just something about that look.... trying to hold back a smile perhaps.

Whoever did this had better hope the police catch him before the neighbors do. This clown could get lynched, or have his garden burned down.

Too bad kitties have their own ideas about territory and don’t abide by human conventions on property.

But if this guy is tired of cats invading his turf then he should get his own cat. Duh. Any cat worth his salt will keep invaders out of his territory.

My cat stays in my home, and NEVER once has set foot elsewhere.

What kind of pet owner allows their pets free access to other's property?

Duke (RIP) used to make sure that no cats invaded our property. Once he is replaced, we will again be cat free.

Duke

The two blonds on the right are sisters, is my bet. I wouldn’t cross them. Nope.

If you live in a densely populated area, which I assume this is, you have all kinds of considerations that you must abide by to keep the status quo. Keeping your cats off of someone else’s property might be one of those things to do. ;-)

Rotties can be so ferocious defending their space ... especially if they have an extra lookout. ;-D

Ah, and what were the cats doing running loose?

I wonder how the cat lovers would like it if I walked my dog down to their front yard to take his morning dump?

I vaguely recall a story a long time ago about a guy who did just that with a neighbor who had roaming cats.

I can certainly understand that person’s frustration and sympathize with him.

I don’t like my neighbor’s cats doing any and all of that stuff either.

It’s a very creative solution. Better than anti-freeze...

...or have his garden burned down.

If my cat was missing and I received such a letter, it would be more than the garden burning.

My parents live in a neighborhood where several neighbor cats roam. All they ever do when they see a cat stalking through their yard is open the door, and the cat usually heads for the hills when it hears the door. No need to hurt or kidnap the kitties.

Outdoor cats may catch and kill the slower birds, but they are also useful for keeping down the vermin population (rats and mice) and even keeping down the rabbit population, which people can appreciate when rabbits start eating up their plants and gardens.
