Sometimes, we don't want to look too deeply into our souls. We don't really want to find out what it says about us that we get a kick out of pets dressed up in Halloween costumes.
So we swallow our shame, we bury our dogs' dignity beneath tutus and devil horns, and we laugh. We can't help it. They're too unspeakably adorable and hilarious.
It doesn't help that each year, pet costumes become not only more elaborate but more ubiquitious: You can barely run into Petco for a rawhide without smacking into a rack filled with ladybugs, bees and dinosaurs.
This year, according to the National Retail Federation, one in 10 Halloween celebrators -- 7.4 million households -- plan on cramming their pet into some kind of costume. We figure that puts us in good company. So we're going trick-or-treating with our pets, and we don't care who knows it.

You don’t damage a dog’s dignity with costumes...
They would do anything to please you even if they have to put on clothing.

Wegman, the famous photographer, almost had his career ended when his new puppy kept getting in the way. As soon as he pleased his puppy his career took off.
