DeGeneres said she spent $3,000 having the dog neutered and trained to be with her cats. But the dog had too much energy and was too rambunctious, she told her television audience.

How do you spend nearly $3000 on dog training in under a month? (that is assuming that she got a regular price neutering instead of some boutique priced one).

If she would have just contacted the pet adoption agency, informed them and let them check out the new owners to make sure that Ellen wasn't serving as a supplier to Michael Vick she could have avoided all of this.

Dude, if you have lots of money. We would say the same thing about you. How did avacado get such a beautiful woman?

I can understand that the rescue agency is worried that someone is going to be overwhelmed with a pet and then abadon it in the street.

But she found the dog another home. What's the problem with that???

There are limits on these things. The SPCA’s of the world do the same thing. She kept the dog less than a month. There are strict guidelines when adopting animals, and this is one of them. If you don’t like the dog, or it doesn’t work out, they must go back to the shelter. After a period of time you can do as you please with the animal, but so soon after adoption. I am no lefty, but I am an animal lover and the last thing I want to see is an animal given to someone, from someone, who didn’t have the slightest bit of responsibility when adopting the animal in the first place. They are within their rights to protect the animals they find homes for. This hairdresser could be a loon, and not fit to take care of a dog et al. After all, he/she is a hairdresser for this carpet muncher.

Doesn’t this seem a little self serving of an organization that is for the proper treatment of pets?

How are they supposed to ensure the proper treatment of the animals if they have no control over where they are placed? This is a standard AKC model puchase contract clause.

I wonder if they only want to deal with the ruling class, and were concerned that a hairdresser having one of their dogs would devalue their franchise.

This is a pretty standard policy for pet adoption agencies. Ellen DeGeneres giving the dog to her hairdresser is one thing, but if she had given the dog to Michael Vick... You can understand why they’d want to keep tabs on the animals.

That maybe true, but how do you know it was a good home. Obviously the carpet muncher wasn’t a good home. What makes you think this hairdresser is any better. There needs to be a screening process.

Someday Portia will leave Ellen for a man and then the Hollywood media will give her the Anne Heche treatment.

“I thought I did a good thing. I tried to find a loving home for the dog because I couldn’t keep it.”

I’m not a big fan of Ellen, but it seems she tried to do the right thing here. She did what she thought was best for the dog.

That alone warrants a ‘bravo’ from me.

But “Mutts and Moms” won’t get their hand-off handout when they flip the hound to another family.

What is Portia de Rossi thinking? She is smokin’!

Apparently some pretty strong schtuff.

I agree 100%. Ellen loves animals, without question. I don't agree with her life style but it certainly has nothing to do with her finding a good home for HER dog. OK, she should have read the papers. Further more, they should have verbalized such an important fact to her when she adopted the dog. If she feels tricked, I wouldn't fault her.

What better thing could she have done but to find a good home for Iggy with kids old enough to appreciate him and a home he was evidently happy in. That organization, seems to me, was seeking an easy bit of advertisement and to pick on Ellen sure got them that. Just maybe, not such good press though. People will side with Ellen because of her love of creatures. You did a good thing Ellen with the information you had. Very few of us read the fine print especially when we are thrilled to be gaining something as precious as a puppy. I totally fault them for not making it perfectly clear about returning the dog if you couldn't keep him and I fault you .0527 % for not catching the fine print.

I hope you raise enough stink that they give the dog back to the home you found.

I saw the video yesterday on TMZ, of the woman taking the dog. OMG she called the police! It was disturbing. As much as I hate most Hollywood gays, I have to say that I like Ellen and she had good intentions.

Can y'all do a FReepaton for me so I can get some cash to try out your theory?

I’m sorry. We all seem to have missed an obvious point. Ellen DeGeneres pays for her hair to look like that?

OK. I’m on Ellen’s side on this

does that make me a bad person?

Side comment: funniest part of Ellen’s “coming out” on her sitcom - lots of celebrity’s “came out” in support of her. Among them was Nathan Lane. The UNIVERSAL reaction was “booby, we knew, no big deal”

"Mutts and Moms dog rescue agency?...sounds like the soup nazi to me..."

HA!!
That or something more sinister, perhaps an obscure arm of GLAAD?

In this convoluted day & age of, "any press is good press" coupled with who this happens to be about?

...very plausible. ;^)
