Roommate killed over 'stinky feet'

CHICAGO (AFP) - A Texas man is accused of stabbing his roommate to death because the man complained about his smelly feet, police said Monday.

William Antonio Serrano, 20, was charged with murder.

"Serrano and the victim, who are roommates, got into an argument in which the victim told Serrano his feet had a foul odor," police said in a statement. "At that time, Serrano retrieved a knife and stabbed the victim numerous times."

The Houston Chronicle said the two men rented a small bedroom in a Houston apartment from a married couple with a baby.

The mother and child were sitting outside Saturday evening when the men started drinking in their room.

They started fighting about the man's "stinky feet" and the woman peered into the room to see one of the men holding a knife in his hands, said Sgt. M. Sosa of the homicide squad.

"By the time she got inside, he was on top of the other man," he told the paper. He was not immediately available for an interview.

The women fled and called for help, and then the roommate "comes after her and says, 'I didn't mean to do it, I didn't mean to do it,'" Sosa said.

The victim's identity was not released. He was pronounced dead at the scene with multiple stab wounds.

I know it’s a knee-jerk reaction, but I wouldn’t be shocked if there’s immigration issues here.

I know it’s a knee-jerk reaction ...

Nonsense. There was nothing wrong with the man's knees. It was a question of his feet.

Now it’s not just his feet that stink.

What a lousy way to go. I’m sure someone loved him, stink foot and all.

Well, that explains the foot baths in public places, don’t it?

Rest his sole. This case looks laced with bad blood. This guy was clearly no Will Rodgers (he never metatarsal he didn’t like). If he was that angy why didn’t he just sock him? He didn’t simply clip him with that knife - he nailed him. What a heel. Let this be a lesson: roommates need to either toe the line or hot foot it to somewhere else.

A story appearing in the St. Louis, Missouri Globe-Democrat in 1895 says:

William Lyons, 25, a levee hand, was shot in the abdomen yesterday evening at 10 o'clock in the saloon of Bill Curtis, at Eleventh and Morgan Streets, by Lee Sheldon, a carriage driver. Lyons and Sheldon were friends and were talking together. Both parties, it seems, had been drinking and were feeling in exuberant spirits. The discussion drifted to politics, and an argument was started, the conclusion of which was that Lyons snatched Sheldon's hat from his head. The latter indignantly demanded its return. Lyons refused, and Sheldon withdrew his revolver and shot Lyons in the abdomen. When his victim fell to the floor Sheldon took his hat from the hand of the wounded man and coolly walked away. He was subsequently arrested and locked up at the Chestnut Street Station. Lyons was taken to the Dispensary, where his wounds were pronounced serious. Lee Sheldon is also known as 'Stag' Lee.[1]

Lyons eventually died of his injuries. Sheldon was tried, convicted, and served prison time for this crime. This otherwise unmemorable crime is remembered in a song. In some older versions of the song, the name of the other party is given as "Billy Deslile" or "De Lion".

The guy with the smelly feet was the murderer. The man who called him on it was murdered.
