LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has banned the sale of a T-shirt bearing the likeness of Michael Vick hanging the dog mascot of rival Texas A&M.
The red and black shirts, with text that says "VICK 'EM" on the front in an apparent reference to the Aggies' slogan "Gig 'em," was created by a Tech student who was trying to sell them before Saturday's game in Lubbock.
The back of the shirt shows a football player wearing the No. 7 Vick jersey holding a rope with an image of the mascot Reveille at the end of a noose. Vick, who faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a federal dogfighting charge, is suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
Tech officials late Tuesday announced the fraternity that sold the shirts was suspended temporarily and will face judicial review for allegedly violating the solicitation section of the students' code of conduct.
The school said it wouldn't allow the sale on campus of items that are "derogatory, inflammatory, insensitive, or in such bad taste."
No more shirts are being produced, the school said in a release.

Chances are TTU is going to *hang* about 50 on them fighting Texas Aggies.

Yeah, but A&M could score 55 on `em ;-) If Tech ever puts together a decent defense, they would run wild in the Big 12. I love their offense. It sometimes reminds me of 6-man highschool football (hard to describe, I don't even know if it exists outside of Texas, but it's fun, fast-moving, and high-scoring.
It's interesting how the A&M and Tech rivalry developed. Even before the bonfire collapse, the A&M/UT rivalry was diminishing since UT and OU were becoming so obsessed with one another (and rightfully so, OU and UT nave cost each other a shot at a national title or two over the past decade).

This is hugh! This is series! I just hope the frat is not put on double secret probation.
I suspect demand for the t shirts has increased as a result of the college administration doing what they do best: attempt to regulate free thought.

If you want to call it a “school,” yeah, I guess.

Doesn’t seem fair, does it? Maybe the Shootout should be a 13th game or something?

As a Tech grad, I resent that implication... :)
At least we had the decency to not promote the t-shirt (I do think it’s funny), but at least it is a start to try and restore some civility to the cirriculum that other institutions seem to have lost (Colorado?)

IDIOTIC Tech Frat T-Shirt Stunt notwithstanding, we put a defense together 2 weeks ago after getting rid of that bump on a log of a defensive coordinator, Lyle Setencich (but a good guy and praying for he & his family on her illness), and putting Ruffin McNeill in that position.
As for our offense,

Oh, and Guns-Up PING!

To be honest, I like it as it is - I think that if you aren't running on all cylinders by the time the Shootout comes around, you're not going to be ready come the end of the season. I know it can be a distraction, since both teams are looking to get their non-conference games out of the way, playing teams like the Oklahoma School for the Blind or the Texas Women's College. If they aren't focused and playing well five games in...they probably won't go far.
You've got plenty of time to correct your weaknesses as well - by the time UT got to Kansas State, the lack of a power back and the lack of an offensive line that could protect McCoy was pretty apparent, and KSU made UT pay for it, and Oklahoma made UT pay for it. If you can't fix such glaring problems (the power back situation is hard to fix I'll admit) four or five games in...you're doomed.

I mean it when I say Tech reminds me of highschool six-man football, where every player on the offense is an eligible receiver. There maybe only 11 players out there, but it feels like 7 of them are receivers every time.

Thanks. They are fun to watch. And now, the defense is more fun to watch than before 2 weeks ago.

He was run out of town as head coach after three disasterous season in the mid 1980's at Boise State...in my family (of which I'm the sole non-Boise St fan) that name is one you just never bring up. :)

He's had Tech fans cussing his name for the past 3 or 4 years. Get this...up until 2 weeks ago, the defense didn't tackle during practice. He supposedly gave head coach Mike Leach his first job, and so Leach felt some kind of loyalty/debt to him. I get a feeling there were some high-level alum calls placed after our loss to OSU loss (when we racked up 50+ points and yet still lost thanks to the defense).

Dont you know? A&M claims we are not a rival of theirs.
For two reasons - you all have embarrassed them in a big way a couple of times in recent history, and they probably are mad that UT cares more about OU than A&M.
Heck, you guys could very well be the end of Fran's career at A&M this year ;-) (and I'm suprised A&M still has tickets available for the game).
To: af_vet_rr
Anything can happen and this is always a tense game for me, but to answer your question, Tech has defeated A&M 9 of the last 12 games.

Dont you know? A&M claims we are not a rival of theirs. You're right - A&M needs to win a few of these games before it's considered a rivalry........
