Officials: Middle School Students Caught In Sex Act In Class

HOUSTON -- Some parents in Fort Bend County are outraged after their children said they witnessed a pair of eighth-graders engaged in a sex act, right in the middle of class.

Parents told KPRC Local 2 that they received the unsettling news about an incident at Crockett Middle School in a letter that went home on Friday.

"My mouth flew open when you told me just a few minutes ago," Lubergha Munson said. "I didn't expect you to say anything like that. I thought you were going to say they were fighting or something."

The principal sent letters home with some students explaining a situation that was reported to campus administrators last week.

The principal reported that the students, a boy and a girl, made inappropriate sexual contact with each other while other students watched.

That was a shock for Tom Ray, who has a 14-year-old daughter.

"To me there are a host of problems and I think it starts at home," Ray said.

In the letter, Principal Corliss Rogers said that there was an investigation and that both students received appropriate disciplinary action.

The letter does not say where the teacher was at the time.

However, some concerned parents told the station that their children said the sex act happened once the teacher stepped out of the classroom.

"I think there should be more supervision. If that's the case and they have enough time to do such things, obviously there's not people there to supervise them," Crockett parent Gerry Banez said. "That's real disheartening."

What's also disheartening for some parents was the amount of time it took for the information to get to them. It's been more than a week since the incident happened.

"I would expect the parent to at least have a call from the principal if not the day at least the next morning. I don't believe there's any excuse why that wouldn't happen," Ray said.

Still, some parents said it all boils down to a lack of respect.

"No respect for authority, no respect for themselves, (and) not for the other kids in the classroom," Munson said.

Campus and district counselors have talked with the students who were in the class and will be available in the future if those students need to talk.

You can be sure that the school administration will blame the hapless teacher who could “not motivate” students and “maintain order”.

Sex is everywhere. It's why we're here.

Kids today are exposed to sex at a much earlier age than ever before. I wonder if these two went through sex ed. in the first grade?

Actually, the teacher is probably union. I wouldn’t be surprised if the administration tries to blame the kids, their parents, and the boogeyman first.

A couple of years ago, one of the ushers caught a couple of middle school kids engaging in the same kind of behavior only it was in the balcony at church during the service.

These were kids the church brought in from neighboring communities each Sunday - no parental supervision. The kids were angry they were singled out and the parents - both the boy's and the girl's - didn't seem to be too surprised.

Any chance the kids were transplanted Katrina "victims"? We got some and each one is nothing but trouble with a capital T.

Well, since they teach every detail in sex education, why NOT do it in class?

After all, that's what chemistry labs are for in school.....learn the science of a natural phenomena from the teacher and the book, and then carry out an experiment utilizing burner and beaker with everyone looking on.

I was in middile school in the early eighties...we use to joke about sex...but no one messed around at school.

Falling standards...and the pronification of young children allow this to be the “new” normal...

Sad.

Damn, stuff like this never happened in our middle school back in the fifties. We just talked about it.

“To me there are a host of problems and I think it starts at home,” Ray said.

Sorry, there’s no room for that sort of logic in the “blame everyone else” society we live in.

Don’t you love this author’s use of the word “some” throughout the article. He never explains that a letter was sent out ot only some of the parents; the ones in the classroom where the incident took place. I wonder if the author wants us to believe that not all of the parents are shocked. You know fair and balanced or another load of do do.
