And they all owe their livelihoods to Les Paul.
Hahahahaaa ... maybe I should PhotoShop Jann's image into the coffin on side of the stage :)
Al Jr. and Tipper Gore will get inducted as “influences” for the PMRC nonsense that got Gore on the national stage in time for the 1988 campaign. They never cared about that crap, just look at how they’ve moved on from it and get endorsements from MTV which is far worse than it ever was in that era.
Show of hands, anyone think that Ronald Reagan will ever be inducted into the Hall as an influence? I mean, just look at how many hardcore punk album/single covers and posters he was on in the 1980s.
That funky monkey!
Buddy Holly never denounced the war in Iraq or President Bush.
Johnny Cougar’s most rock and roll moment came as his star was rising and he sat in with some teenage punks (as in “roots” rock, not politics) from Indiana called The Gizmos. He was already famous but they had all the talent.
No, you just pace yourself. That’s good.
;-)
I’ll agree to that. Saw them this summer with my 12-year old. Other bands with guys 50+ years old are doing the casinos and playing their old hits and reminiscing. Rush played 8 songs off their new album plus several oldies that haven’t been heard live for 20+ years. Plus numerous of the old hits (concert was about three hours long with a 20 minute break - and no chit-chat between songs). This was my third concert and by far the best in terms of sound, musicianship and Geddy’s voice. (Time has mellowed his voice - it’s still high, but not as shrill!).
You know, that’s an excellent point.
When is Wanda Jackson going to be honored? That girl could rock out like nobody’s business.

You’re so right, but it’s just not worth paying any attention to. It’s kind of laughable. A ton of great musicians and innovators never even get nominated, but Madonna and Mellencamp do. I guess Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” is just more innovative, complex and moving than Yes’s “Close to the Edge”, or anything King Crimson has done (to name just two great bands of many). From where I sit most of what’s in the RHOF would make good ‘torture’ music for psy-ops etc.

That Advisory Label drew kids like a magnet! Artists were eager to get an Advisory Label because they knew it would increase sales! That’s part of the reason for the trash on the airways today.
Kenny Rogers and the First Edition?
My apologies for misreading your list, then. Seeing Mellowcrap's name on the list of nominees made me claw my eyes out so I misread you :)
Agreed !
True that. I’ll recommend the Les Paul episode of American Masters on PBS. It just came out on DVD too.
“Kenny Rogers and the First Edition?”
I think it was the fricken Rivingtons.
Wanda Jackson has a documentary about.
When they talk about “women in rock”, there are decades of women who precede Madonna and played their guitars.
Peter Noone (of Hermans Hermits) is doing a benefit here in a couple of weeks. I plan on going and enjoying a little British Invasion memories!
Just went and dug out some of my DC5 lps to listen to this evening.
