The Dallas Cowboys may be a few years from their last Super Bowl, but they are the favorite football team among adults who follow professional football, rising one spot since last year. Since this survey began in 1998, the Cowboys have always been in one of the top four positions, usually in the top two.
The Indianapolis Colts have continued their steady rise in the rankings and move up one spot, from No. 3 last year to No 2 this year. In 1999, the Colts were tied for No. 27 and have moved up each year since. Rounding out the top five are the Pittsburgh Steelers (No. 3, dropping from No. 1 last year), the Green Bay Packers (remaining at No. 4) and the Chicago Bears (No. 5, moving up one spot). Jacksonville was the least popular NFL franchise for the third straight year.

Exactly, they all do it. They all try to get an edge. There is a reason that no other coaches are making a stink besides the whinebag Mangini. They all do things to get an edge and now the league is scrutinizing everyone.
Had Mangini won the ( any ) game he would not have said a thing.

I'm not sure how I ended up on an NFL Ping list. I have essentially zero interest in sports.
Really all you need is big stars. The NFL stopped being about teams and started being about marketable athletes a long time ago.
Yes, the Jaguars covered some seats to sell out. The 2nd smallest TV market in the NFL had one of the biggest stadiums in the League. The stadium is large in order to accomodate major college games (and the city still puts up thousands of extra stands for Florida/Georgia and FSU/Alabama). Even with the covers the Jaguars’ capacity is still greater than many in the League.
The lack of exciting players is probably the biggest problem. The players are good; some are very good (Fred Taylor), but none of them have the off-field disposition to attract media attention.
Championships help, look at the Pats, how popular were they in the 90s and they even had some stars. Americans like winners, happens in all the sports, there’s nothing like winning a championship or two to move the merchandise. To make a team the ultimate marketing machine what you really need is at least one posterboy star that drives your team to at least one championship and then stays with the team at least 5 years, people flock to the winner and stay for the posterboy.
I’d be up for 10 large...and depending on how the season goes (injuries and all that) I might stretch that even higher. Anyone else?

The again, players such as Michael Vick and Terrell Owens became big NFL stars with huge salaries and millions in endorsements without winning any titles. Yet they sold lots of jerseys and other products. One of the local sportswriters here described an NFL game as a marketing blitz filmed before a live audience.
Only fans of teams with history and stoic rabid fans (Bears, Packers, Giants, Skins etc.) can should be called America’s most popular teams. Geez, can a team which promotes an a$$ like TO be anything but dog doodoo on the heal of my shoe? Uh Oh, I can hear the crying of cowgirl band wagon jumping fans all around America starting to flame up...God help me, they may scratch my eyes out..hss...hss...I hope the Big Blue out of the swamps of Jersey kick the cowgirls butts...and btw, even if Mi’ Jints don’t, I still will show up next year and cheer my team on, win, lose or draw. Something the so-called cowgirl fans have no idea what it means.
To all real Cowboy fans...those who stand by their team...this is not directed at you but to those fair-weather cowgirl fans...and you know who they are and how plentiful they are.
