CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In an unlikely marriage of desire to secede from the United States, two advocacy groups from opposite political traditions New England and the South are sitting down to talk.
Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully.

Why don't we see this in divorce? What man says to his soon to be ex-wife "I know you think I'm 'boring' and don't make enough money, but I really want to keep you here on the couch eating bon bons and getting fat. If you leave I will forcibly drag you back and chain you to that sofa and force you to watch Oprah and Lifetime."?
That's more my point, cutting the country to ribbons is the only way currently to achieve getting rid of federal giveaways. We'd have to do some serious cuting and chopping to get a demographic that wouldn't support welfare programs. And you're right, it ain't just the blue states.
There is another, a legal course.
The good Americans should insist Vermont be purged from the Union, perhaps ceded to Quebec.
