The MLB playoff picture is now complete. And what a way to complete it. The Padres led 8-6, in the 14th inning, with all time saves leader Trevor Hoffman on the mound...bring on the Phillies, right?
Uh...no.
Details to follow.
Looking at his face I’m sure he didn’t remember much at that point.
As for the call at home plate I haven’t seen a camera angle that proved he didn’t touch home plate. The ump was positioned to see his hand, the cameras weren’t. The catcher stepped on his hand as he rotated. Under his foot? The plate.
Garrett Atkins double was a home run. It hit either the wheel chair or railing. Game should have been over in the 9th. At least the outcome of the 13th was the same as it should have been in the 9th.
Game over. Good game Padres.
Yes, and thank you very much. Gave us a crack at it.
I didn’t mean “Dodger-boy” to be a slur, sorry if it came across that way. I cheer your Dodgers except during the Freeway Series. After all, Soscia, Hatcher, Griffin, we are loaded with former WS Dodgers here in OC.
Ahhh, these things I did not know. Interesting. That’s what I get for channel surfing in and out of sportscenter.
Actually Yankees play Indians in the first round...
Boston plays Anaheim in the first round...
Ah, just come here and we’ll set you straight. No bias either!
You pray, you make babies. I’ll pray. You repeat. I’ll repeat.
A great game for the Rockies! Beat those Phillies.
A Boston TV station the other day had someone who was unclear on the concept setting up a graphic. It listed the days
the Sox would play the Angels in the ALDS but it had a big picture of Chief Wahoo on the screen. Swell, the
Los Angeles Indians of Anaheim! :)
Well Elrod Hendricks still hasn't tagged out Bernie CArbo in game 1 of the 1970 world series.
How did the umps miss that Atkins HR call???? If the ball had hit the yellow pad, it drops to the ground or bounces back a bit, because it is padded. That ball ricocheted like a rocket. It obviously hit a very hard surface in order for it to bounce back like that. So, whether the ump missed the later call at home plate in the bottom of the 13th, it never should have come to that, and if the Padres would have won, their victory would have been shrouded in controversy, as well. BTW - I have no dog in this hunt. My team (Reds) have long been eliminated. :-(
I agree. The umpire was just waiting to see if Barrett held onto the ball.
