BENSON The Pony Express will ride again during Butterfield Stage Days on Oct. 13, and the U.S. Postal Service will issue a special postmark to commemorate the event.
At noon, special Pony Express riders will be sworn in by Postmaster Lesley Tower in a ceremony in Lions Park. They will carry the mail from Benson to the Dragoon post office, arriving in Dragoon around 3:30 p.m.
The Benson post office will offer a special postmark commemorating the 22nd Annual Pony Express Ride. The postmark, which features a Butterfield Overland Stagecoach design, will be available from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 13 at a postal station at Lions Park. The postmark will be applied at no charge to any item with a first-class postage stamp.
The Pony Express postmark also is available through the mail. Customers should place stamps on envelopes, address the envelopes and place them inside a larger stamped envelope addressed to: Postmaster, 250 S. Ocotillo Ave., Benson AZ 85602-9998. Postmarked envelopes will be returned through the mail and all requests must be mailed by Nov. 13.
Butterfield Stage Days will feature a parade at 10 a.m. on Oct. 13 on Fifth Street.
The Benson Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 100th birthday. A fireworks show will conclude Oct. 13ths events. The Butterfield Golf Tournament will take place at Turquoise Hills Family Golf Center Sunday. For information, call (520) 586-2842 or go online at www.bensonchamberaz.com.

I suspect that the Tucson TV Stations some 80+ miles distant will consider it to “Hooterville” to bother and they are the closest.
