>>features that are taken from the Mac OS X and Linux playbook<<
Why is this a reason to abandon Vista, if the alternative is either Mac or Linux?
BS meter alert here.
Two paragraphs, and not a word about the "Protected content" crap that *poof* turns your new gazzilion Ghz computer into a 286...
Just sayin'
Get Root !
I’m running vista ultimate and have had zero issues. Also, I back up my movies with no problems either. The only problems I know of other vista users were having are driver problems. But that is the hardware manufactures issues, not Microsoft. Regardless, they were all fixed.
After using SUSE 10.2 for several months and not being entirely pleased, I just installed Ubuntu 7.04 a couple of days ago. Wow! Very much ready for prime time. Everything I’ve tried so far works and updates actually install instead of leaving you with undigested files scattered all over your hard drive!
I do believe that the folks at Ubuntu have grasped that to most of us, “terminal” is a dirty word.

Yeah, Microsoft might go bust... by 2050.
Within three years M$ will be fighting to keep above 60% market share, unless they do something very remarkable in this next year.
Maybe less. Mark my words.
Just keep this name in mind...Canonical.
The last time I asked this, nobody replied. I bought a new laptop and have a ‘free’ upgrade for Vista from WindowsXP.
Should I do it? I am using Windows XP on my desktop and am happy but understand that they will stop upgrading it not too long from now.
My next PC will be a laptop with System Commander to let me switch between OS at will.
DOS for legacy stuff.
XP for windirt stuff.
And some version of Linux for the internet and heavy lifting.
If some kindly FReeper would suggest a version of idiot-proof Linux with a nice graphical interface I would be much obliged.
I had problem with Vista doing a very basic function. I called Dell and after hours they could not solve it. I called the router company and they said it was not their problem. MS support was rude. They claimed that Dell loaded the Vista so they don’t support it. (BS, they wrote the stinking thing and made the profit from it.)
Finally, I found a work around on the internet. You have to lie to Vista to get the function to work.
I still can’t get several software programs to work with it so I just use them on my XP machine. The Vista is used pretty much for just web browsing and email since it’s so useless.
