Carr is a perfect example of why you don’t rush QBs to be starters in their first year.
They still have enough talent to be dangerous but Norv Turner has yet to prove himself as a head coach in this league.
I saw him live last year against the Pats and even when he had receivers open he had trouble completing passes. It’s nice to see Andre Johnson with a QB that can get him the ball.
“The Cincinnati Bengals went to Cleveland to play the Browns...and an Arena Football game broke out....”
Bob Costas, last night
Did I hear the blonde reporterette correctly (Andrea)at the end of the half yesterday? She stated the Charger defense was saying they had the Pats right where they wanted them?
“She stated the Charger defense was saying they had the Pats right where they wanted them?”
Yes, they wanted the Pats offense to be on the field as long as possible to tire them out. A subtle if not successful strategy!
That had to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. The Pats should have had 10 more points going into the half.
Yeah, it seems like every year at least one team comes out of nowhere. Last year it was the Saints. Maybe it will be the Steelers this year. It's fairly unusual for the pre-season favorite to dominate the entire season and then win the Super Bowl.
The Chargers should drop down a few positions in the power rankings after last night's performance. I have to admit, I'm one of the people who thought that the Chargers should have fired Marty.
I’m not really liking what I’m seeing out of my Steelers. The red zone offense is crap, too many short field drives resulting in 3 and even 0. Of course the good news is the schedule gods were very kind to us this year and gave us a first 5 weeks of warm up games that count (Browns, Bills, Niners, Cards, Seahawks, bye) so hopefully we can use this time to get it together while still winning games. Could be a real test of Tomlin’s coaching ability, it can be hard to convince your team they’re playing poorly when they’re getting easy wins.
Didn't he hire Caldwell too?
Yup. Frankly, at this point, I prefer him to Maroney. Maroney gets an awful lot of "no gains" to average out with his open-field work.
Had him in for an interview. RC said they didn’t talk about the Pats.....
Whole lot of good that it did anyway. The Jets could have dropped their entire defense into coverage and they were not going to stop Moss.
Madden was talking about how Maroney doesn’t hit the holes and drive the ball up into the line. I agree with his assessment save for the final drive when Maroney was the featured back and he did hit the pile a few times or go off tackle and picked up yards. I just don’t trust him not to fumble though.
Morris is a nice option though....
Maroney is wonderful when he gets an opening...but he gets nothing, or just a yard far too often. Last year I enjoyed his runs when he got past the line, but overall I’d say until he gets that short-yardage game to at least a mediocre level, he’s over-rated. He’s still a niche back.
I guess they wanted the Pats defense to be too well-rested..
Charger-fan-in-the-house and I looked at each other in disbelief when she said that. Sure glad everything went along with the Charger game plan, though!
ZING!
Rim shot.
Yeah even she seemed baffled by that comment.
It is the mark of a good coach who can do that.
